Shiny Plastic!

Postby VideoGameCritic » January 31st, 2007, 6:36 pm

What the hell is up with this super-shiny black plastic being used to house newer systems like the PSP, PS3, and DS Lite?  It might look nice coming out of the box, but 5 seconds later it's covered with fingerprints.  Have you ever seen a PSP that's not totally smudged up??  Not only that, but the dust really piles up on these - I can already write my name on the PS3 using my finger!

Even Nintendo is annoying me with my black DS Lite.  The thing is, the plastic inside actually has some texture, so it tends to look great all the time.  Why couldn't they have made the outside like that!?  The use of shiny plastic needs to stop NOW.

I'd like to hear your opinions on this.

im generally sick of black, white and grey electronics. the 360 faceplate was a decent idea that kept retailers from having to stock 54390 different versions of the same product, but the make-your-own-faceplate kit is probably the best deal going.

I totally agree.  My phone is in the same glossy plastic.  The textured matt finish not only looks better but is so much more practical for those of us that sweat when things get intense.

I agree.  I first imported the dark navy blue DS Lite from Japan last April, and it wasn't long before the fingerprints were beginning to drive me crazy.  I ended up getting another white DS Lite to try to solve the issue.  It's the same kind of shiny plastic, but the fingerprints don't show up as well on the white for some odd reason.  They still show up in some sense though, so it's hardly a perfect solution.

I posted on this before, on the white DS light you also have dirt showing up really fast. We all have oil on our fingers, and tiny amounts get on the pad and buttons; surrounded by white it really shows up and a black mark on the white casing looks awful. I really miss my old SILVER GBA-SP!
