Cleaning N64s and N64 game cartridges.

Postby Edward M » February 1st, 2007, 7:02 pm

I've had my N64 for 10 years, and it is having painful problems reading cartridges.   Sometimes I will blow in the cartridge for 5 minutes to get them to work, and other times it wont work at all.  I know this won't get any better with age so what should I do to clean them?  I'm afraid of breaking the cartridges as I've never cleaned them before.

Check out the Critic's "Guide to Cleaning Video Games."  It's in the "Extras" section.

Clean the contacts in the cart with a q tip dipped in white spirit (ignoring the warning in the manual), then place the cart with the opening to the contacts facing down until it dries.

Blowing is hazardous to the contacts due to the spit that'll end up on them, so do your best to avoid that.
