Sony spokeperson slams Wii

Not to induce ANOTHER Nintendo vs. Sony flame war, what do you think of these comments from the New York Times:

"...Dave Karraker, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said the Wii did not belong in the same category as the more powerful PlayStation 3. “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else,” he declared."

I think it shows Sony arrogance once again, which could turn the gamer-base at least towards Microsoft. I think by the end of 2007, Sony's sales will surpass the Wiis, or at least be close to it, but do you guys think this is a sign of the beginning of the end for Sony's reign?

Before anyone brings up Blu-ray again, just remember, the porn industry hasn't picked if they are gonna do Blu-ray or HDDVD. If the porn industry picks HDDVD, Blu-ray is toast (See BETA). If anyone thinks that comment is out of line or just wrong, just remember the porn industry dwarfs Hollywood in DVD sales and rentals. It's decision will make one media obsolete.

That's to be expected (the company exec trash talking). It is becoming more and more common and is, in my opinion, pretty silly.

I could be totally and completely wrong on this (feel free to correct me here), but I can't seem to remember Nintendo ever stepping out and "dissing" the competition, at least so directly. If that is true, it speaks volumes for the company, in my opinion. It wouldn't surprise me if Reggie has engaged in a little verbal riposte, however.

All I'm gonna say about the whole porn thing as it relates to HD DVD vs. Blu Ray is that its sad, in my opinion, that this particular industry carries that much weight (if what you guys have been saying is true). But not surprising.

This is the Sony attitude in all of their electronics.  Which is why I think they will at least sink, if not fall.

I have to agree.  The PS3 should definitely not be lumped into the category of "consoles people actually want to buy".

If you mean Sony's total sales will surpass the Wii then I agree with you, but if you think the PS3 console sales will surpass the Wii sales I think you're way off. $600.00 is way too expensive for it to be purchased by tons of people. Like that Sony idiot said, the Wii is an impulse buy. Is that a bad thing? That means people are saying "oh that looks fun, and it's not too much money either, let's pick one up". Maybe the hardcore gamers that get PS3s will buy enough games to bring bucketloads of money to Sony, but I don't see the console sales being as high as its competitors.

Its funny because despite all the negative press and all bad things said about the PS3, pretty much every "expert analysis" is picking Sony to be on top again.  Most places still have Nintendo finishing third and in some rare instances they have Microsoft last.

Honestly it doesn't matter to me...I would be happy if each system took home 33.3% of the market share.  System wars are queer as hell and getting caught up in all of it is something I stopped doing when I was 16.

The 360 was met with equally bad press merely a year ago and everyone seems to be embracing it now.  Try not to get too wrapped up in what these execs say because non of them really know what the future will bring.  Two years from now Sony could sell more consoles than anyone and they will look back on this and laugh.

You ever seen "thank you for smoking"....reps are good at what they do, and whose side they're on comes second.

Maybe 2 years from now Sony will drop the price, too. Without that I don't see the console selling that much. $600.00 is too much money for a hobby primarily taken up by children and teenagers. I'm not saying it's childish, so don't take offense by that anyone, but most games are made to appeal to college age and younger. For the college and high school gamers I think the 360 is probably going to continue being the first choice, and parents buying their kids systems for Christmas are probably going to be getting Wiis.

I just had to comment on this...  More than likely... if trends continue as they are in the pornography industry they will pick... neither! Many pornography companies are distributing their content on PPV/On Demand sites on the internet. Most companies aren't picking either because its likely that porno is going to go completely digital. I have an 'inside' source on this one so don't be surprised if Porno craps on both mediums.

You are right VGC, who would want to play a Sony Video Game System? I mean, I guess the fact that they sold like 200 Million units in the last 10 years means NOTHING. Nobody wants to play those crappy systems.
