Video Game Critic gets reviewed?

Postby VideoGameCritic » October 2nd, 2020, 8:16 pm

I stumbled upon this little article in my Twitter feed. It seems a bit incomplete. Thoughts?

This guy must have a super high-resolution screen for the site to look so narrow.

Yes, I noticed that too. The site never looked like that on any widescreen monitor I've used.

This is 1080p on my screen.

This is his screen.

1080p on PC is pretty widespread, dare I say it's almost ancient for desktops nowadays, the mainstream monitors nowadays aim for either 1440p or 4k (2160p).
Laptops on the other hand tend to be either 768p (something like 1333x768) or 1080p.

So I can definitely say: this is what most people see when the website is opened and the browser tab is full screen.

There are some zooming tools on Windows for fonts and icons, I dunno if it does extend to browsers and overall display. I do have that turned on already I think though.

So maybe I should stretch the content and bump up the font? Is there an optimum or maximum width?

On any browser, you hold down the Ctrl key and turn the mouse wheel to magnify the whole display. You can also hold Ctrl while pressing the + or - key.

I do magnify this site to 133% on my 1080p monitor. It still has wide margins.

I would not recommend HD screenshots. Ever turn off CSS on a modern gaming site? If you do, you’ll see about 20 pictures so large each one takes up the whole browser window. That wastes your users’ bandwidth, & wasting bandwidth is rude.

I usually prefer sites to only take up the middle 2/3rds of my screen, so I don’t see a major problem with your current layout. Then again, I zoom in on just about every site, to see the txt better.

No need to change a thing!
