Red Faction 3

Postby wur1 » February 4th, 2007, 4:50 pm

This was just announced.  I know many will roll their eyes and say, "another FPS sequel", but Red Faction is the game that got me into the FPS genre, so I'm kind of excited about it.  (I played Doom a lot back in the day, and a bit of Quake and Goldeneye, but lost interest until I started playing Red Faction, Half Life, and Perfect Dark about three years ago.)  IMO, the Red Faction single player was a lot more fun than Halo.

Red Faction 2 admittingly sucked.  Let's hope this is as good as the first one!  (I think if they did a polished remake of the first one, that would be great; there were a lot of rough edges on it, admittingly.)

When was Red Faction ever more than a gimmick?  Even when it was released it didn't exactly get glowing reviews.

Actually Red Faction did get pretty good reviews when it was released. Maybe you didn't read any of them, but they were there. Red Faction was a fun first person shooter; I don't really see how having a solid single player and fun multiplayer is a gimmick.

The only problem was the story had some holes (eg, a large part of the story is about Hendricks [the black technician guy], and he just gets suddenly killed near the end) .  I really liked the idea of the miners having an uprising.  I especially liked the part when you're stuck in prison for a few minutes, and all looks lost, until your friends break you out. ("Reeeeed faction!")

Well I read some downright mediocre reviews of it.  But then they were in multiformat magazines rather than PS2 mags (let's be honest it didn't have much competition back then - Timesplitters 1? eurgh) and there were far more, vastly superior FPS on the PC.
