when will the Wii be "available"?

Postby wur1 » February 5th, 2007, 12:00 am

Like the Critic, I refuse to stand in line for a Wii.  I'm sated enough with my still-shiny DS lite and PSP that I can wait a few months.

...that being said, does anyone here have any idea when the Wii will be constantly stocked? (ie, I can walk into XYZ Electronics, and pick one off the shelf?)  I recall it took until last April or May for the 360 to be available on demand, and was wondering when the same thing will happen with the Wii.

They are coming in fairly often from what I've seen, they're just going so fast that you don't notice them.  A store near me got 8 the other day and they were gone in half an hour.  I guess word gets around fast or something.

I've now seen 3 60GB PS3s in stores, and still no Wiis...or Wii remotes...or Wii nunchuk attachments. I really wish I could find another controller. I was thinking of waiting until February and getting Wii Play ($50.00 with extra Wii remote), but after reading reviews it sounds like it might not even be worth the extra $10.

It seems like I'll be waiting until February before I see any controllers anyway. I think the consoles are just selling out really fast, but the controllers aren't available because Nintendo didn't ship enough. At the Circuit City where I found my Wii there were 24 consoles, and 6 of each type of controller. So if it's alright, I'm going to add to your question. Let's make it: "When will the Wii and Wii controllers be available."

There are plenty around. I was in a Gamestop today in Braintree MA and they had six or so in stock. The guy said that while demand was still good they weren't flying off the shelf like they were two weeks ago. Anyway, your best bet is Sunday or Monday. It seems like most stores restock Saturday night. Good luck.

This is ridiculous. I need myself a Wii now... if I don't see one soon, I'm buying a PS3.

Its funny because I live near Shawn (Rhode Island) and everytime I ask about the Wii I get the same response...They fly off the shelf within a few hours.  I'm sure he has seen them, but each area every is gonna be different.  I have seen the PS3 a handful of times and the next time I do I'm gonna pick it up.

Also up until this week I hadn't seen any accessories for the Wii, but it seems like every store has a few of them now.  BestBuy, Target and Walmart all had nunchucks and classics controllers.  The actual remotes were a little more rare, but I have seen a few.  Luckily I got an extra nunchuck and controller when I bought the system.

If you are looking to get a Wii (or a PS3 for that matter) go during the middle of the week.  Every store clerk tells me that the shipments come in on tues or wed and to be honest the few times I've seen a PS3 it was during a weekday.  If you go hunting for these things during peak hours, i.e. the weekend, you are going to get shut out.  Just keep your eye out and hopefully you will get lucky.

Every time I saw the PS3 it was during the weekend. They must not be selling as quickly around here.

At my local EBgames, there is a sign saying limited PS3's availible.    That sign has been up for 6 weeks now.  I have yet to see a Wii availible in any store ever, and I am always at video game stores.   Who in the hell could have predicted Nintendo could make such a huge comeback?

Well, it's still early so anything could happen, but I think the low price and innovation are really pushing the Wiis. I'm sure the PS3 is great (or will be once it gets going) but $600 is a ridiculous amount of money for a video game system. Not a single "average gamer" is going to pick PS3 over 360 or Wii. That system is purely for hardcore gamers and people who want cheap BluRay, and I don't think that's a big enough demographic for Sony to keep the lead.

In canada the price of PS3's have increaesed thanks to our weakening dollar. At futureshop, the 20gb model is now $599.99cad while the 60gb version is $699.99cad. That is a fifty and forty dollar increase respectively.
