Motion sickness with Sonic 360

Postby wur1 » February 6th, 2007, 12:33 am

I played the 360 Sonic game about seven hours ago, and the speed and awful spinning camera gave me motion sickness.  I still feel sick; like eating a bunch of junk food at a carnival and going on a roller coaster ten times.  I don't think a video game has ever affected me physically like this.

Has this game induced the same physical feelings in others?  I won't be surprised if it gives kids seizures and is withdrawn from the market.

I was too busy retching from the AWFUL cutscenes, graphics and loading screen to notice.

What! You gotta be kidding me. How does someone wind up  getting sick from cameras and speed from a game? Well, it's Sonic and that was the reason Sega came up with him- lightning fast gameplay but no cameras. Have you played any games that involved a moving camera? I mean, other games could not have made you sick.

I cannot play FPS games at all.

After 10 seconds or so, waves of nausea come over me. Usually okay with 3rd person games - but I remember Mario 64 used to make me feel a bit queesy

This game is awful.  It made me feel sick not because of the camera angle but the fact that they had done this to one of my favourite video game characters.

Sayonara, Sega. Thanks for the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast.

Sega should have to put Sonic to rest for a while and put up 2D games of him. It amazes me how the 16-bit era would be different if Hedgehog was not here. I mean is there a real bad camera game out there? At least the last couple GTA games on PS2 let you move the camera in the car and on foot and not get sick but it makes it look like it is a good movie with cool stunts.

They can do great 3D Sonic games, Sonic Adventure is a perfect example of this.

No it isn't. I'm sorry but I just bought the Gamecube port to play through again, and without the original awe that I had with seeing it and the speed when I played it 5 years ago it's really not that great. It isn't an awful game, but the poor camera, and overworld really bring it down. Plus, I thought Amy and Big were terrible characters. I know it's not the port either because I remember the problems in the original; they just weren't fixed for the port.

Now Sonic Adventure 2 on the other hand might be a perfect example of a great 3d Sonic game. It features the three best characters in the first game-Sonic, E102 (in the form of Tails and Robotnik), and Knuckles- without any of the overworld. It's been a while since I've played it, but I recall it being a great improvement over the original. I plan on picking it up soon.

The game features a hedgehog trying to get it on with a hot young chick.  Is it any wonder you're feeling ill??  The camera is the least of your worries!
