Wii set to get Manhunt sequel

They need good mature games. Resident Evil 4 was a start for them last generation. Wii needs something of that caliber. Maybe in a year or so.

Why do they need Mature games?  Since when did violence and sex make things better?  Sure the Wii is getting some mature content, and it needs it, but mature doesn't equate to better.  Games as good and as groundbreaking as Resident Evil 4 come out once a generation...if you're lucky.

Anywho, its obvious why Rockstar is bringing this game to the Wii...its a lighting rod for controversy.  Being able to murder someone with the Wiimote is going to raise some red flags in certain groups.  While the game is coming to the PS2 and PSP, the Wii version will get the most attention.  I am willing to bet that the Wii version also sells more copies than the other two.

Can anyone think of a unique way the Wiimote will be put to use?

I must be a lucky man. I must have the luck of the irish.. I've gotten games as good or better than that for the 360 throughout last year. I love being lucky.

Wow Shawn!  You're on a ringer today!  I bet you -- I JUST bet you -- that if it were on the PS2 and the 360, it would sell more on the PS2.

Just a wager!

I mean -- one of them has a 10 million fanbase built in a little over a year, and one has a 100 million fanbase built in a little over half of a decade.

And the Wii, well... it's sold a lot more than the others in its first few months, but not enough to make up that kind of margin.  You don't have to know how to take the slope of a curve to know that the rate of change hasn't saturated to that point just yet.

Do you really think you are impressing anyone with these wagers, or other boneheaded stunts?

There are good games for the 360, no doubt, but there is only one that can be compared to RE4.  RE4 took everything the franchise did, turned it on its head, and innovated it.  There was absolutely nothing like RE4 when it came out.  That is what I meant that you are lucky when a game comes out like that.  It was completely fresh and innovative.  Gears of War is probably that game of the next generation for the first few years.  Besides that nothing on any next gen system has come close to creating an experience like RE4...at least for me anyway.

No I'm not gonna make a wager with you Shawn, but I will explain my thought process on my statement.

Yes the PS2 has a huge install base and that alone makes it the favorite to sell more systems...but when you consider the small amount of units the orginal Manhunt sold you can toss that logic right out the window.

I could understand if Manhunt was a well established franchise on the PS2, but its much more of a cult status game.  People might expect more of the same on the PS2 and only fans will buy it.  On the other hand the game could flourish on the Wii, since there are less M rated games and people with a new Wii, might be looking for something different.  Plus if the controls are good it will attract people to it (not to mention controversy).  The Wii has just as much of chance to sell alot of units of Manhunt 2.

Also Manhunt 2 is not a port of a PS2 game.  Rockstar has a studio that is building the game specifically for the Wii...I believe its Rockstar Toronto (the same folks that brought us The Warriors.  If the game is as critically acclaimed as the orginal game, the Wii version could be a runaway success.

Of course I could be completely wrong.

"you may be wrong but for all I know you may be right" - Bill Joel

Anyway, you are correct sir, it is not "technically" a port but it is a multiplatform game. Hopefully, the Wii can add something b/c of the controls. We'll see. I still think it is scary as hell when the only multiplatform games the Wii is involved with in 2007 are also on the PS2 and/or the PSP. Just goes to show you how seriously it lags behind the 360 and the PS3.

Oh...if anybody is interested the original Manhunt can be found dirt cheap at Ebgames or Gamestop. I plan picking it up this Friday or Saturday. Stay tuned.....

I am officially changing my name to H&R b/c Shawn is boring. I guess H&R is too but....

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH. AAAAAAAHHHHHHH. I'M SCARED TOO SHAWN! What if, because the Wii is only getting multiplatform games from the PS2 it dies and becomes a software company only? ...wait, isn't that what you want?
