Next big genre?

Two games that I would like to see have sequals on the DS are ZOOKEEPER (because its a favorite) and METEOS (to fix the easy game/just rub the whole screen defect).

I would also like to see old school games updated for mordern systems. A really good 2-D GALAGA 2008 would be cool, or a climbing game or pac-man type maze game with gorgeous graphics and over a hundred screens! There are lots of us "old timers" who would buy these, same thing with 2-D platform games....why are they restricted to DS / PPS (not counting METEAL SLUG).

Since Nintendo is trying to reach older people, I am hoping for Wii versions of old games-and don't mention the online games, many of us want DISCS, not some cyberspace game (besides most of those on the Wii site are not updated).

Alienblue, do you have the Pac Man collection for the GBA? It has 2 3d maze scrolling Pac-Man games in it. One of them adds a jump button so you can avoid ghosts, and the other one has powerup items (aside from the power dots), big ghosts and other things scattered around. The one with the special items is a great game, and it's worth the $10 you can get the collection for on its own. Its only flaws are it ends, and the boss at the end gives you too many points. The power-ups include speed up, mirror image Pac-Man on the other side, and clear the ghosts from the screen.

a- yes, Pac Man Collection was the second game I purchased for the old GBA (after Super Mario Advance) and I still have and play it. PAC MANIA was originally released as a coin-op in the mid 80's. Not sure when Pac Man Arrangement was released, but these are perfect examples of what I'd buy for $35-$40 easily on the consoles. A Donkey Kong arrangement from Nintendo would be so cool, with stuff from DK, DK junior, DK 3 and Mario Bros with lots of different screens. (Although I'm not a fan of the DS microphone, Donkey Kong 3 would be perfect for it!- blow into the Mic to activate the spray gun stanley weilds!)

I don't think there is much chance of a Donkey Kong arrangement since Nintendo likes milking those old games for everything they're worth. Expect them to keep releasing the games one at a time.

Meteos has a sequel.  It's Meteos: Disney Magic.

Well, If we're going to be judging games from their titles now...

Seriously, how can you judge the game simply on the title? I can't speak for Cooking Mama, but Phoenix Wright is a gem. Slightly overrated, but kickass nonetheless. It's really just lawyers in name only for starters- court battles are heavily dramatised, with 'showdowns' between the attourney and prosecutor. Not to mention the game is very funny and doesn't take itself seriously- something very refreshing in the market today. To top it off, the characters and story is surprisingly great.

The next big genre is pick up and play.  Older gamers (i.e. 24+) make up more of the market all the time, and with their money, they will eventually drive it.  As gamers get older their tastes will have to change to acknowledge two things;

1) Modern gaming sucks

2) They don't have the time they had as pimply faced teenagers or ten year old children.

 

The only solution is pick up and play classic style games.  I for one welcome that change.  Maybe we'll finally actually see some mature games (i.e. games aimed at the play style of actual mature people).

Pick up and play? I don't think that could be considered a genre since it could be almost any type of game imaginable.
