Hey Mark, how about a bad guy's banner?

Just for kicks, I could put together a "worst of" banner...submit your recommendations.

Earthworm Jim

Cortez or R109 (from Timesplitters)

Alien from Destroy all Humans

Stubs the Zombie, etc

 

Video Game inept opponents

Glass Joe

Yellow Dragon from Adventure

That weird elf guy from the more recent Zelda games

 

Just some ideas, I bet other people could come up with some better candidates

BTW, the Wario/ Gears/ Sonic/ Pac Man/ Breakout banner is the best. Iconic, and great colors

As to a "worst of", C'mon, PLEASE don't use E.T., too many on here think it is really a decent game. I can think of several 2600 games that very few, if any, would say are good:

SKEET SHOOT
SSSSNAKE
BUGS
AIRLOCK
PAC-KONG
SWORDQUEST series
SPACE WAR
DOUBLE DRAGON
ARTILERY DUEL/SUPERKICKS

Any of those are FAR worse than E.T.!

I dunno, I had quite a bit of fun piloting my pink ship around a yellow square in the greenness of space...27 years ago, anyways.   Any of those Data Age games were quite the turds, though.  Is Pac-Kong legit, or some kind of hack?

Sure, but none of these are notorious like ET. All of those games would suck on a banner. ET is credited for the video game crash of 83. Has there been a bigger disaster than this game? Of course, 20-something years later, is it as terrible as those games you mentioned? Not even close, but that's not the point. When someone sees Bubsy, ET, 2600 Pac Man, etc they'll be like "Ha Ha Ha, that's great!"

E.T. AND Pac-Man were catalysts for the crash because they were over-produced; they made more carts than there were systems thinking people would buy TWO copies! , but it's not necessarily because they were bad games ( living at the time I ever thought Pac-Man was that bad a GAME, just a bad coin-op adaptation)... also it was the glut of bad games from everywhere that caused the crash, not just E.T.

Pac-Kong is a really bad foreign released game with one screen. It is said to flicker worse than any VCS game (I think it was a hack of Tigervision's KING KONG, not Donkey Kong).

Personally, I always thought RAIDERS/LOST ARK was far worse than E.T. ... at least E.T. was PLAYABLE! Use the I.Jones icon!

By the way, Mark updated the "evolution" banner to replace the Unreal dude with Lau from Virtua Fighter.  I think it's a big improvement.

Mark also gave me a sneak peak of the upcoming "female evolution" banner.  You are all in for a real treat.
