You NEED this NES/SNES console!!!

I just bought this console, brand new, for $40 at a little gaming shop in my town.  I didn't even know it was available until I walked in and saw it running the opening scenes of Super Mario World.  So maybe this is old news, but I just bought it a few hours ago, and so far I am impressed.

First of all, is the obvious kicker that it has slots for both NES and SNES games.  This is especially nice because it gives you a stereo output for your NES games.  I know they don't run in stereo, but at least you will get sound out of the left AND right speakers.

Second, the controller ports are replicas of the SNES controller ports, so if you aren't happy with the SNES replicas it comes with, you can grab an old SNES controller and be happy.  The only really mentionable problem that I have with the controllers it comes with are that the shoulder buttons don't have as much throw when you press them as the normal controllers do.  The digital pad feels like it might be a little tighter feeling than the original, but so far it hasn't bothered me at all.

I have only played a few NES and SNES games, but so far everything has seemed perfect.  From what I have read, these are not the same as the other machines that have been available in the past in that they do not emulate the games.  The above link makes mention of it also, that they are pretty much copies of the original system.  Again, I really bought this on the fly because it was so cool, and have had minimal time to test it and to read up on it, but so far I am really happy.

Some other interesting details about it:

You can have two cartridges in the machine at the same time.  The Power button decides which one you play, with a seperate switch position for "8-bit" and "16-bit".  Not really important, but interesting.

Comes in Silver, Gray/Black, and White with Blue buttons like an SNES.

There were other things I was gonna mention, but they escape me at the moment.

I'm curious if anyone else has tried this or had any information about it other than what I have said.

I saw that on Ebay the other day. I considered getting it, but I already have a top-loader NES, and if I wanted an SNES I could probably find it for a little less. It is pretty cool though. Now, once the patent for the N64 expires I'd like to see an NES/SNES/N64 system come out.

I have one . . . it doesn't play NES games as well as the SNES games. In particular (as is usual with these clone consoles), it doesn't play Castlevania III, and presumably other NES carts with special chips.

Do you mean it just doesn't play the games with special chips at all, or are there some games that it doesn't perform as well with?  Cause so far everything I've played (nothing with a special chip) looks perfect.

the NES portion is an NES clone using the NES-on-a-chip, and there are some compatibility and sound issues with it. what is shocking is how well the SNES seems to work. have you tried Star Fox, or another super FX chip game yet?

"First of all, is the obvious kicker that it has slots for both NES and SNES games. This is especially nice because it gives you a stereo output for your NES games. I know they don't run in stereo, but at least you will get sound out of the left AND right speakers."

You could before as well by plugging the audio cable into the white audio port, typically televisions will then play that on both speakers if you don't have anything plugged into the red input.

"Second, the controller ports are replicas of the SNES controller ports, so if you aren't happy with the SNES replicas it comes with, you can grab an old SNES controller and be happy."

Only for SNES games, their controllers that it ships with have some special circuitry inside to make it also compatible with NES games, which the regular SNES controllers lack.

"I have only played a few NES and SNES games, but so far everything has seemed perfect.  From what I have read, these are not the same as the other machines that have been available in the past in that they do not emulate the games."

None of these clone systems emulate anything, they're all reverse engineered NES and SNES consoles. The article uses emulation when referring to the Wii's Virtual Console.

"I have one . . . it doesn't play NES games as well as the SNES games. In particular (as is usual with these clone consoles), it doesn't play Castlevania III, and presumably other NES carts with special chips."

Like most NES clones, it plays most anything, except for Castlevania III, Gauntlet, and a handful of other titles. And some other titles can have issues.

Chrisbid, it plays Star Fox just fine.

That's true.  I guess I was thinking more in the sense of using a stereo system, since all my stuff runs through my home theater system.

Interesting.  I hadn't tried that yet.  So far I am fairly pleased with the stock controllers, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

I have heard about that, but it seems like they are usually only really minor differences that you wouldn't even notice unless you were playing the games side by side.  I have been playing alot of my favorite games on it, and so far I havn't noticed a difference.

One negative thing I have noticed so far:

Yesterday a friend and I played about 3 hours of Tecmo Bowl (we had like 3 different Maddens available, but we couldn't stop with the Tcmo Bowl rematches) and althought I have not double checked this by trying it on a real NES console, it really sounds like the quarterbacks "Ready, down, hut hut hut" is slot more staticky than it should be.  But I can live with that.

Anybody know of a clone system that has a built in disk drive for famicom disk games? One like that would be sweet.
