Tuesday Night Gaming

Postby VideoGameCritic » March 9th, 2021, 7:24 pm

Had my old buddy Sudz over for some after-work gaming. Here is the list.
A lot of these were two-player games I've been waiting to review since covid:

Battle (Arcadia 2001)
Cyberia (3DO)
Twin Cobra (NES)
After Burner (NES)
X-Men (NES)
Duck Game (Switch)
Toejam and Earl (Switch)
Jay and Silent Bob (Switch)
Bubble Bobble 4 Friends (Switch)
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4)
Rambo (PS3)

Scott had so many funny comments I could barely jot them all down.
Keep an eye out for these reviews.

How was Afterburner on the NES? You didn't look favorably upon the one for the Master System, so hopefully it's a completely different game.

I played a little Metroid on the NES, but I was too tired to play much because I slept with the windows open last night and the birds started making one heck of a racket around 5 in the morning.

X-Men (NES)

Dave, you are a sadist. I can't believe you subjected Chris to X-Men as well! Is the (evil) plan to make sure ALL your friends get a whiff of that stinker just so that no one of them can hold it against you?
"Yeah, Dave forced me to play X-Men, but I guess it was nothing personal, he made everyone else play it too."

Looking forward to many of these. I'm gonna agree with C64 Critic that you're a sadist- but more so for making him suffer through so much Virtua Fighter on the Saturn.

Already review, but don't hesitate to revisit North & South one of these nights so you can try the multiplayer.

Of this list, I only played Bubble Bobble 4 for Switch. I found it kind of disappointing. Not bad, just disappointing.

Adorable and filled with cheap deaths from enemy fire you can't see.

Even by Afterburner standards.

It was easier to track the action in the slideshow that was the Master System port - the missiles light up for your attention and take their time approaching, making it a true test of your reflexes. Seriously, it was almost like they were shy and this was our first date.

The hardest challenge was resisting the urge to give them a pity death.

Meanwhile, the dirty snipers of the NES game keep reminding you that short teleportation hops have replaced all the sprite scaling. Good luck predicting your game over without reviewing the footage. You could probably meta game your way around this, but who plays Afterburner for the hardcore pattern memorization?

It almost feels like an advertisement for the PC Engine version, in the same way Donkey Kong sold Colecovisions.

I'm really looking forward to the Critic's review - maybe he had better luck with the game than I did.
