Overrated games!

I know its pretty much heresy but I think Mario 64 is pretty much crap.  It doesn't come close to matching the 2D Mario games in terms of sheer fun and excitement.  I haven't played the games since the 64 days so maybe I should go back and revisit this one.

Call me crazy but I also think that Metroid is best played when you can actually SEE Samus.  Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero mission walk all over the Prime games.

I think Splinter Cell is one of the most overrated games ever made.  Also the series needs to go away for a while...there was no reason to pump out 4 games in 4 years.  Since Metal Gear Solid debuted there have only been 3 main entries to that series and thats been over the course of decade!  Also each one of those games had drastic changes, while Splinter Cell takes the babysteps approach. 

I will also concur that San Andreas was a huge misstep from Rockstar.  GTA was perfected with Vice City and since no info has been released on GTA IV I remain pretty skeptical about it.

What is wrong with you people? Why are you beating up on Okami like you are? Although the graphics and audio are great, it is a great game that provides more fun and gameplay innovation in its first hour than Zelda Twilight Princess or Kingdom Hearts 2 do in their entirety.  

 

If you want a really overrated game, that would, ironically, be Clover's previous game, Viewtiful Joe.  Again, it looks and sounds great, but unlike Okami, it isn't able to keep its original gameplay features going throughout the entire game (you get the sense the developers ran out of original ways to use the cool powers halfway through).

 

And I personally thought people really overpraised Dead Rising, some giving almost a complete pass to its obvious and unacceptable gameplay failures, such as the awful AI, save system and gun targeting.

Yeah.  I guess it just feels like some games might actually suffer a bit if they had too much depth, and Wii Sports seems like one of those games.

     I am a big fan of Wii sports, I do think it is a legitimate game of the year canidate, and I understand what Nintendo was trying and not trying to do with that title.

    

 However -

    

     Would it have kliled them to add a few more golf courses? Only nine holes stinks.

 

     Why do I have to go to the Wii Play time board to see my high scores? 

 

      I wish i could hit the A button on tennis to switch my raquet (sp?) to the other side of my body at critical times, to realy slap the ball where I want to.

 

      But despite my nitpicking, and it has great physics and unique visuals, and the control is great! No doubt Nintendo left the door wide open for 3rd parties to focus on one of their core concepts and really flesh it out, as so many people would like. That game is kind of a gift blueprint on how to make a good sports game with the wimote. 

 

     Does the Critic have a Wii yet? I am curious to see some Wii reviews!

Wii Sports Game of the Year? You have to be kidding me. It is nothing more then a glorified tech demo. If it came out as a stand alone game it would have got killed in the press. It has zero depth! I nominate it for most overrated game of the year! Along with Table Tennis (good but not sports game of the year and Rainbow Six Vegas (if I could stay alive longer then 3 minutes I might enjoy the game).

I like Okami, but I definitely don't think THAT.  Twilight Princess was by far the better game where gameplay is concerned.

From the Virtual Console on the Wii I've found one terrible game.  Kid Icarus blows chunks.  The can't fall back down or you die even though there was a ledge there just a second ago gets annoying.  I never made it past the first stage.  May I have my $5 back please?  There's a reason Nintendo never touched this franchise since the game boy, it's terrible.  Honestly, anyone that says differently has a fantastic pair of rose colored shades as this game pushes up nothing but poop.

If you want a real tech demo, get Wii Play. Wii Sports would have sold like gangbusters on its own, as it is currently the best game out for Wii, Zelda be damned. Of course your entitled to your opinion, but I like to give a little back, lol.

By the way, do you have a PS 3 yet, and if so, what are your impressions.

Wii sports if fun for about 5 minutes until you realize how un responsive the controller is and how little your actually doing

Actraiser- so here I am defending Kid Icarus again, and I never even liked the game as much as Donkey Kong! ...but seriously, I can understand if you are younger why the "can't fall" rule seems strange, but in the 80's in MOST climbing games...DK, DK junior, Miner 2049er, etc... you COULD NOT FALL VERY FAR or you'd die! So I imagine that rule carried over....also, only a few stages are vertical scroll, there are palaces and horozontil stages too. I think it is a great game, sorry.
