Overrated games!

Postby ActRaiser1 » February 20th, 2007, 11:43 am
Actraiser- so here I am defending Kid Icarus again, and I never even liked the game as much as Donkey Kong! ...but seriously, I can understand if you are younger why the "can't fall" rule seems strange, but in the 80's in MOST climbing games...DK, DK junior, Miner 2049er, etc... you COULD NOT FALL VERY FAR or you'd die! So I imagine that rule carried over....also, only a few stages are vertical scroll, there are palaces and horozontil stages too. I think it is a great game, sorry.
I respect your opinion and if I could ever survive to reach the second stage I might change my mind.  However, when the game's released at roughly the same time as Metroid that had both the ability to go up and down/left and right at the same time there's no reason Kid Icarus couldn't as well.

Seriously, the kid's got wings, why can't he float down?  Don't give me the hope of flight and completely use it against me.  If you can't float down then rip off the wings.

Sorry Alienblue but......... I played Kid Icarus, I borrowed it from a school friend, and beat it as a kid.

I had fond memories of the game, so much so that.............

I hunted down and bought the actual NES cart a few months ago, and............

This game really does suck. It's aged very very poorly.

I think the orginal NES Metriod sucks royally as well.

Wii sports if fun for about 5 minutes until you realize how un responsive the controller is and how little your actually doing
I don't believe you ever played the game if you think the controller is unresponsive. I honestly sat down and barely flicked my wrist to play Wii Sports tennis.

The first time I played tennis in Wii Sports I had no idea that you weren't controlling the Miis.  My neigbors must have thought I was a complete spaz.  I was jumping and running around my living room like a complete fool.  But, man, was it ever fun!

i sat there wanking off the controller and it hit it just fine

Well if you were wanking off the controller you should be pretty happy that all the onscreen character did was hit a tennis ball.

Wii Sports Game of the Year? You have to be kidding me. It is nothing more then a glorified tech demo. If it came out as a stand alone game it would have got killed in the press. It has zero depth! I nominate it for most overrated game of the year! Along with Table Tennis (good but not sports game of the year and Rainbow Six Vegas (if I could stay alive longer then 3 minutes I might enjoy the game).
So let me get this straight....  a game can be a total blast to play, and the perfect ice breaker for when the in-laws come over...... yet if there's no depth, it's a piece of crap..  Makes perfect sense.

Let me say once again that if Wii Sports had depth, I would be skipping through the "depth" with the + button to hurry and get to the game.  That kind of game needs no depth.  Did Tetris need depth?  Did Virtua Tennis have depth?  No.  They were fun.

Hey smart guy if you like it that is great. I find Wii Sports to be a bore. Boxing is a joke and the controls suck. Tennis is on rails. There are only 9 holes of Golf (and the controls suck). Baseball is lame (no career mode, no seasons, no official teams. Now I am not saying there isn't fun to be had. There is and if you enjoy games that offer extremely shallow gameplay then this is the game for you. You like to play with your inlaws? Good for you. My inlaws have no interest and neither does my wife. Give me a break dude. As a pack in it is fine but people calling this the game of the year, please! The only reason people are still playing Wii Sports four months later is b/c Nintendo hasn't released any other games worth playing. Don't worry, Metroid will be out this Summer.

It's just a stab, but I would guess there's not too many people wanting to play games with you at all... related or not. If you do have friends that come over, its probably the type of people that would steal money from you if you left it laying around.

What's up with all the Okami bashing? I really enjoyed Okami and think that it stacks up favorably to the 3D Zelda games, though I wouldn't say its better. Besides the awesome Japanese art style and theme, which even the haters have to admit are truly sublime, Okami has much more to offer. I was really drawn to (ahem) the paintbruch mechanic, and after a small learning curve was busting out shapes with 90-95% success rate. Obviously this mechanic would work great on the Wii (I would bet that this game or a sequel is on the way to that system), but I have to say that for using an analog stick, especially the PS2's, Clover pulled it off very well. Aside from the theme and paintbrush elements, I think Okami actually follows the Zelda template pretty closely. I can't see how someone who enjoys TOoT, WW or TP could not like Okami, as its obviously a great big love letter to those games. Sure, Okami is not perfect and has some issues. There were some items/weapons and abilities that I never needed, and most battles can be won using just the bomb. I also can't deny that Okami's difficulty should have been set a few notches higher. Overall though, I think Okami offers a great Zelda-style experience for those who own a PS2 but not a GC or Wii, or those who can't get enough of this genre and will play both games (me). A glance at GameRankings reveals a 93% average review rating for Okami. I might rate it a little lower, but no lower than 90. So to me, at least, Okami is most certainly NOT overrated and deserves all the praise it has received.
