It's irrational and childish for you to reply without any good points.  The whole "Own it or don't talk about it" logic is sadly flawed.  Consumers decide to buy something or not based on what they perceive about a product.  As a consumer if I am totally underwhelmed by a product and decide not to buy it, I am allowed to express that opinion, as it is what I feel about the product.  If I had to buy and own everything in order to decide I didn't like it I would need a much bigger house. 
This isn't something sacred you know JLH; it's videogames. 

Also, I didn't say the 360 was perfect.  However, I feel what the PS3 does that is important as a videogame system is done just as well on the cheaper 360 than on the expensive PS3.   As well, I wouldn't exactly be putting forward reliability as a strong point on a Sony made system, as you'll almost certainly be revising your opinion there within a year.  As for launching with a "killer app", a killer app moves systems, PS3s don't move.  By definition, that means they actually don't have a killer app.  Sorry, you can't argue with that logic.

That's a *little* unfair, as he certainly gave good points, points that I can relate to, for why the PS3 isn't a complete waste of money.  And like any good discussion, you being able to express the opinion about being underwhelmed has to be met with his ability to express his opinion that he is "whelmed" at all.

Well I feel that in something as tangible and rich as videogames, owning the system is a big part of the experience.  Its different from a movie or a book.  People can interpret those things in different ways.  Videogames usually need to be experienced to fully appreciate them. 

Since you are at a videogame site discussing videogames I feel that its somewhat important to have experienced what you are praising/condemn.  Sure its not the end all to an arguement, but I am going to hold someone's opinion that actually has played/owned the system in higher regard than someone who doesn't.  Surely you can understand that?

As a consumer there are somethings that you should try before you buy and videogames tend to fall in that category.  Thats why you can rent games, systems, download demos, watch videos, play them at a friend's house.  You can read tons of negative things about videogames and still end up enjoying the final product.  How many times do people say, "Critic you are way off-base with that review"?  Because everyone has a different opinion and some people like what others don't.    When enough people start talking negatively about something it gains moment and people jump on the hating band-wagon.  This has certainly happened with the PS3.  People are coming out of the woodwork to denounce Sony and the PS3.  So yea it has become sort of trendy to knock on Sony.  The systems are selling fine and all it takes is one good game....count it ONE (look at Gears of War) and the system will be fine. 

Before I played a PS3 at my friends house I thought it was going to be rubbish...except the two of us couldn't stop playing the damn thing.  So now when I hear people badmouth the PS3 for no apparent reason I tend to get a little defensive.  The system is an incredible value for its price point and that would be without the blu-ray player. 

Also I never said the PS3 had a killer app...I said that it launched with a game that has killer app potential.  Somewhere down the line Resistance: Fall of Man will be mentioned in the same breathe as Halo.

Oh and back to the topic at hand.  Critic, get Virtua Fighter and NBA Street: Homecourt.  Those should keep you happy for a until the end of March.

For no apparent reason?  You can't be serious.  I don't hear anybody saying "I don't like the PS3.  No reason.  PS3 just doesn't roll off my tounge."  No.  They say "I do not like the PS3 because it is too expensive for what you get, it does not have a rumble feature, it looks like a George Foreman grill, it is offering nothing but rehashes of old franchises with upgraded graphics and sound, etc, etc, etc. (I say upgraded loosely.  I played NBA on it today and the players over-shiny skin looked creepy, but that is not just a PS3 gripe.  Sometimes graphics that are too close to realism remind just how far they are from the real thing)"  Anyways, the point is, nobody is just randomly spouting off that they are not fans of the system.  They have their reasons.

The PS3 is too expensive. It would be too expensive if it had a time machine built in, moreso for an upgraded DVD player. I know it's mainly adults here, but gaming is a hobby predominately taken up by children and teens, not many people in those demographics have $600. That aside, I don't see many other reasons to bash it.

 

Should it have rumble? Probably, but it's not going to kill the experience not to have it. I see plenty of games that I wish I could buy for PS3, but I can't, because I honestly don't think I will ever buy a PS3. I'm waiting for the 360 to drop $100; I think it will be about 10 years before the PS3 dropped $300. Nonetheless, if I had one I would be excited about the games that I could be buying in the future.

 

So you see Shawn, not all of us hate the PS3. JLH seems to like it, and I have nothing against it aside from the price. You on the other hand constantly bash the Wii. You somehow manage to tie how awful the Wii is into nearly every topic. Maybe if you just said, "There are plenty of PS3 games coming out, such as...", instead of "You guys are fanboys! The Wii is so much worse than the PS3. The PS3 has all these games coming out; the Wii only has tech demos." we wouldn't get into these arguments. There was plenty of good to say about the PS3 to support your case; bringing how much you hate the Wii into the equation only hurt it.

I do hear people just rip into the PS3 for pretty much "no apprarent reason". If you don't like the system thats fine.  I will always respect another person's opinion.  Even if you said that the system was too expensive like "a" did, I can respect that.  What really gets me is that people think the system is garbage.  It's a great gaming system.  Pretty much everyone that I've let play it comes away really impressed. 

 

The main reason people think the PS3 is garbage is because of the price.  I judge a system by how much fun I have with it and not how much money I spent on it.  Once more games come out for the system people are going to buy it.    If you think its too expensive, then just say its too expensive.  Don't start saying its a crappy system because it costs too much money. 

I didn't think I'd get to this point of wanting this done but, Critic, I think it's seriously about time to bar Shawn from the site. Before anybody jumps down my throat, hear me out. Rather than come up with his own unique threads or offer any sort of insight, he latches onto the threads that he can spin around into attacks and it's ridiculous! For awhile, I just thought he was just more for Sony than anything else, which I could handle. No, he talks more about the Wii than he does the ps3, or the 360! He somehow has educated opinions on games that he maybe played for a few minutes at a buddy's house, he openly insults people that have a viewpoint even slightly different than his. I'm sorry, but I believe if you are going to start a thread, the least posters could do is be respectful. Shawn, I have never trashed your opinion without being provoked first and that seems to be all you do lately. Saying stupid crap like calling us trolls, telling us to rub our stomachs and blah blah blah, it's childish and makes you seem like an @$$. If you want to post on the board then fine but at least be able to take opinions, stop turning every stinkin' thread into a ps3 vs. Wii debate because they're two different systems. Also, a quick laundry list:

 

1). You don't need to mention the Wii's party games in every post! The Wii has an abundance of party games, yes, but they are not the only company that has an overabundance of a certain type of game.

2). Stop using the weak argument "I played this game and that game over at a friend's house for five hours and it totally sucked!" Congratulations, mind if I try it for myself now?

3). How many more posts are going to include the Far Cry/Red Steel/Call of Duty defense?

4). If you think the Wii is underpowered, don't buy one! Enjoy your ps3, your 360, but don't belittle people for enjoying what they enjoy! Shawn, you can be the most insulting person on that board on a pretty regular basis and it's been getting old lately!

5). Franchises sell, get over it.

6). Nintendo is a company with a history, in gaming, that predates Sony by about a decade and a half so, needless to say, alot of the 20's/30's gamers hold a soft spot. Why does that bother you so much?

 

Now that I got those out of the way, I want to explain that I think, for the most part, people on these boards are at least respectful of the opinions of others. Koopa was banned for, in my opinion, less than this. Shawn's disagreements are all good and fine, as he is not the only one that feels the way he does, but he's flat out aggressive about it and, frankly, I think it needs to stop. I don't run this board, I know, so I have no sway but that's just how I feel.....please don't ban me now(this may have backfired...lol!):-(

Maybe it is time for people who don't completley agree with you guys to leave. The world here would definetly be a perfect place if everybody here agreed. Instead of banning Shawn why don't you delete all of his messges. God knows half of my messgaes get deleted on a daily baises
