360 cheaper than the Wii

The Wii is overpriced at 250$ here in USA considering its about as powerful as an original Xbox
That is a nasty rumor.  I hope I can find the article I just read that says the Wii is actually many times more powerful than the Gamecube, and that the XBOX thing is just something people assumed, and it caught on.

"It looks very good -- a cut above most GameCube titles, which shouldn't be surprising since Wii is roughly twice as powerful. The game also runs in 480p and 16:9 on Nintendo's console and, according to EA, the Wii build sports improved graphics over its PlayStation 2 counterpart on top of enhanced controls. " - Matt Casamassina IGN preview of Medal of Honor Vangaurd.

So yea the Wii is roughly 2 times a powerful as Gamecube, which makes it like an xbox 1.5.

Seriously it really doesn't matter at this point what the Wii can do graphically.  It is capable of making some really nice looking games, but it will never make anything 360/PS3 quality.  I'm fine with that as long as the games continue to be fun.

This is the Wii's stats as of Wikipedia

Main CPU - 729 MHZ

Memory - 88MB

Storage - 512 MB internal Flash Drive

Graphics Card- Clocked at 243 MHZ

Video Output - Up to 480P

Audio - Dolby Pro Logic but no Dolby Digital

In comparison here is the Xbox stats

Main Cpu - 733 MHZ Penitum 3

RAM - 64 MB

Graphics - 233 Mhz Nvidia custom card

Storage - 8GB harddrive

Sound - Dolby Digital

Video output - up to 1080i

As you can see, its pretty simular to the Xbox in the stats.  In some ways better (better video card and ram)  Some ways worse, No real harddrive, no HD support, no dolby Digital) but overall they seem to be pretty simular.

And heres the stats of the Xbox 360 core which retails for 50 bucks more than the Wii.

CPU - 3200 MHZ

Graphics -500 MHZ custom ATI card

Harddrive - none

Video output - 1080p

Memory - 512 MB

Sound - Dolby Digital

As you can see, even though it only costs 20 percent more, it cleans the clock of the Wii in terms of hardware.  If they don't  want to compete with the big 2 in terms of graphics I'm fine with it.  But they should lower price, the price of the Wii should be far lower than 250$.   I know Nintendo is making a killing off of it.  But then again, as long as they are flying off the shelves like they currently are, why not price it as high as they can?  But I hope after this chaos ends, Nintendo will lower its price to what it should be.

Well I think you answered you own question.  If the Wii didn't come with Wii Sports (which is sold separately in Japan) the price would probably be lower.  Also the fact that its selling like crack at $250 means a price cut won't happen for a while.  When the cut comes I wouldn't be surprised if it was dropped close to $150.  Even though the system is drastically underpowered the price (and eventual cuts) will keep Nintendo competitive for at least the first couple of years.

Yes, because I'm sure people are looking up console techy numbers (NUMB-EEERS!) when they decide which console to buy.

No Wikipedia facts! Find a reliable source. There's no way to know if those are accurate.

I don't understand all the hate for Wikipedia. More often than not, Wikipedia cites sources- and when they don't, what's claimed isn't unbeliveable.

Maybe not, but I can tell you one thing, I have not seen one game on the Wii that looks like something the Xbox couldn't do. And that is what those "techy numbers" reflect.

Is that enough sources?

That'll do. I didn't post that to say I didn't believe them, just to say I don't trust Wikipedia. I've read plenty of things on Wikipedia that were completely off base.

Audio - Dolby Pro Logic but no Dolby Digital
Since this was brought up I should probably clarify.  The Pro Logic II that is encoded into recent video game machines is practically indiscernible from Dolby Digital.  Both have 5 fully separate channels of audio, and a bass channel.  It's just that Dolby Digital sends it to your receiver using a digital bitstream, PLII sends it to your receiver through your analog left and right channels, incorporating all the channels into the two using a phase or servo system that tells the receiver which sound goes where.  And if your going to tell me that Dolby Digital is better because it's "digital", you've been talking to too many Best Buy employees.  It's all analog when it reaches your ears, folks.

I'm not saying this to redeem the Wii in the stats, just making a side note so everybody knows that they can get excellent sound without dropping big bucks on a digital cable for their console.
