360 cheaper than the Wii

Huh. Its almost as if Nintendo wants to make money from their hardware. Last I read, and correct me if I am wrong, Microsoft never made a dollar of profit off of Xbox, and I have no reason to believe their making money off of the 360. Bill Gates has said repeatedly that he considers their console efforts to be an "investment" and the reason he got in the console game in the first place was to guard against Sony eventually cutting into the PC market, which is apparently what they are trying to do with PS3, which Sony big shots have called a "computer". Each company has its own unique situations and financial realities, and that dictates the products they make and the prices they set, which is common sense, unless you choose to ignore it.

Yes, every company does. The only difference is Nintendo can make money on their consoles while selling them at a price that consumers will find reasonable. Microsoft and Sony would have to sell there consoles for ridiculous amounts of money (ignoring the fact the PS3 is already a ridiculous amount of money) in order to make profits on console sales.

Apart from the Wii every console in at least the last decade has been sold at a loss.  MS plan to start hitting profits in 2008 which I thought was quite soon to be honest.
The XBox was many times more powerful than the GC.

that would be a no

they were pretty similar, and both were slightly ahead of the PS2. this is by actual gameplay results, not marketing department specs. resident evil 4 looked as good as anything on the top tier of XBox games in terms of graphics.

the wii has a 50 percent faster processor than the cube as well as more ram, video processing, etc. weve yet to see anything push the wii, as most of the early games have been gamecube ports or deliberately simple in the graphics department. considering the decision not to support anything HD over 480p, the difference between all three next gen systems may not have much difference on analog sets. as you need much more horsepower to push graphics in the higher resolutions the PS3 and 360 support.

Since this was brought up I should probably clarify.  The Pro Logic II that is encoded into recent video game machines is practically indiscernible from Dolby Digital.  Both have 5 fully separate channels of audio, and a bass channel.

Yes, I can definitely say I've noticed the quality of PLII in some Gamecube games was directly equivalent that I experienced on the XBOX.  Eternal Darkness, for instance, was the best surround-sound experience I had on my speakers gamewise.  Visceral sounds came at me from all directions in a very unnerving manner.  As long as your receiver understands PL2, you should be fine.
