At least in the UK.  Core 360 package is £150 and the Wii basic package is £180.  Don't know if the US is getting a price cut too.

Interesting. Nintendo could probably stomach a price drop better than any of the big 3, but I think they are very unlikely to do it until sales slow down. Rumors are Sony is contemplating one, but that has got to be a tough pill to swallow.

It might have to do with the rumours that Microsoft is getting rid of the "core" system to make way for a new SKU.  They want to get rid of the remaining core systems sitting on the shelf, so why not undercut Nintendo's swift selling machine?

Also I don't think Sony is planning a price cut too soon.  They have found a way to produce the PS3 at like 40% cheaper than when they first made them.  Those cost reductions will only help Sony lose less money on each system and people won't see a price cut for a while.  As long as Sony's system is selling they won't cut the price.

According to http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi   180 pounds (thats the pound symbol and not the Euro you used right?) = 351 American dollars.  That's insane.   The Wii is overpriced at 250$ here in USA considering its about as powerful as an original Xbox and even lacks some Xbox features  (HD display, Dolby Digital Sound, a True Harddrive, DVD playback,  and for the moment Online Play) and the Xbox sells for half its price.   Its obvious that Nintendo got an interesting new gimmick (motion sensor controller) and decided to inflate the price because they knew they could get it.  Its a rip off, but I know I have to have it to play Nintendo games.  Damn you Nintendo!!

When you look at the fact the core 360, which is about 3-4 times more powerful than the wii is only about 50 more dollars than wii, or in the UK as you say, 30 less pounds, the Wii is the worst value of all the systems, even though it is the cheapest(but appearlently if what you say is true not in the UK)  .

Is this post directed at me?  I hope not, you would be wrong.  I own about 12 different video game systems, including 4 Nintendo consoles and 3 hand Nintendo Handhelds.  I also consider Nintendo to be the greatest video game company ever and Shigeru to be the greatest man in video games.   But that will not stop me from criticising Nintendo when they do something I don't like.

The XBox was many times more powerful than the GC.
