I'm pretty proud of myself for coming up with this poll. People don't usually talk about the exterior designs of consoles, but when they do, they seem to have some pretty strong opinions.
Personally, I think the PS2 is the best looking console of all time. It has a very bold asymetrical design that reminds me of a skyscraper. As for the worst, the Virtual Boy is an absolute nightmare, but the original Genesis was pretty ugly as well (16 BIT!)
To be honest, I don't think the Wii looks all that great. It's a plain white box that sits on a cheap plastic stand. Not very impressive.

Not really a subject I find myself caring too much about (we're supposed to look at the screen, you know), but the Saturn is mighty stylish, while a Genesis-mounted 32X looks like some sort of mushroom. The Jaguar is pretty famous for it's horrid toilet seat design as well, but the 32X gotta take this.

The 360 looks nifty by itself, but it has a sort of loophole; you can buy different skins and customize it to your liking. In that, it's never really aesthetically disappointing. Neat idea, albeit a little pricy.

I think the Wii is the best looking current console, then the 360, then the PS3. I think the PS3 is the ugliest console in the past 10 years. Other than that I thought the Dreamcast was pretty slick looking, and the PSP looks great until you touch it. I don't think any of the older consoles look that great because most of them were made to look like toys.

Best looking for me is the n64. Nice and curvy. A close second would be the re-designed PSone.
Worst console - well most of the 80's systems are pretty ugly but I'll go with the SNES because it looks like it was designed by Fisher Price.

I completely disagree with the VGC; I think the PS2 is the UGLIEST console of all time. It has no personality whatsoever - just a plain black box, ugly sharp edges and corrugated design... awful.
The best is the N64. I like the rounded "feet" at the front of it, and it just looks stylish. I liked the Genesis at the time but it hasn't really aged well. The SNES is pretty bad too, but I like the sliding buttons. The redesigned PSone is pretty sleek, too.

I know some disagree, but I always felt THE ORIGINAL Genesis was the coolest looking console-like a flying saucer on it's pad or some Star Trek device, I just loved it, plus the dark black color in contrast. Oddly the prvious Sega Master System (first version) was kinda ugly with all the tech info printed on it.
But the WORST looking system here (although the worst of all is definitely the RCA Studio 2, which looks like a car dashboard, VGC doesn't go there) is the Atari XE. First, it's a COMPUTER, it doesnt even LOOK like a game. The slot is on a weird diagonal and the system is light grey with PASTEL butons! YUCK!

(I like the games the XE plays; but I'd rather have an Atari 800 computer!)

Dennis have you not seen the slimline? It's a work of art.

N64 is by far the best looking console.
While most consoles shape is dictated by how big the components are inside, I think Nintendo spent a lot of time coming up with a unqiue design for the console first and then made the components fit inside afterwards.
I like the gamecube too - mainly because its so compact - especially when compare to the giant xbox and original PS2
