I haven't experienced it being all that spotty.  There are situations where it isn't perfect (such as saying "blue" on the stroop test on Brain Age), but for the most part, the voice recognition has been spot-on.  This is especially true on Nintendogs, where it is close to perfect.

So what do you guys think about the cart expansions? They are kind of gimmicky in the sense that they are not used often, but they do work well. Look at N64 and Saturn slots. The RAM expansions really help most of the games they were designed for. The Saturn cart is really versatile and is one of my favorite accessories. I mean one cart can be used for import compatibility, ram expansion, memory backup and a cheat device.

The expansion slot works quite well for Degassi Band Bros.  A cart for that slot basically expands the song list.

 

I don't consider the cart expansion gimmicky just because it isn't used often.  Unlike a control feature, the expansion slot is more of a utilitarian one, and thus should only be used when it becomes necessary to do so.

Is that a Saturn game? I've never heard of it and google search only brought up some tv show.

I don't think anyone brought this innovation/gimmick up yet.  Were those LCD Shutter "3-D" glasses for the Sega Master System any good?  Did they make things look fairly 3-dimensional, or did they just give you a headache after a while?  If that sort of thing actually worked, I seems like it would be pretty innovative.  Maybe used on a more modern, higher-refresh rate TV?  Imagine "reaching in and out" of a screen using a Wii controller?  Poking around "inside" someone in Trauma Center?  Virtual reality, baby.
 
Nintendo, if you use this idea for Wii II, you owe me $3.74...

It is a Japanese DS import rhythm game that uses the expansion slot to add new song lists with the same cart.  Sorry, I didn't specify that I was referring to the DS portion of the discussion
 
I believe the DS slot is also used for memory storage in the DS Browser, and I have an expansion pack that acts as force feedback as well.  There is some talk that there will be a motion sensing expansion pack for some games as well.

I havn't played all the games that they worked for, but they work awesome on Missle Command 3D.  The problem was how ridiculously uncomfortable they were.  It felt like they were made for display purposes only, and not to actually be worn, because they didn't  come close to fitting right.
