Reviewing Zelda Twilight Princess

Postby a1 » March 6th, 2007, 12:28 am

Crevalle, Twilight Princess was a good looking game, but I see where you're coming from. It was not better looking than a Cube game, because it was a Cube game. It wasn't even the best looking Cube game, the Resident Evils and Wind Waker looked better than it. It was not, however, an ugly game by any stretch of the imagination. The flying sections with the wolf were beautiful even if they were on 360, and the twilight areas looked great as well. It doesn't take a fanboy to question how you could call it ugly.

Great.  Not another person tossing the word fanboy around every time somebody gives their opinion.  Grow up.

I meant that you area a Zelda fanboy--and I still believe you are.  You cannot be objective as a result.  There's nothing inherently wrong with that--it just means having a discussion with you about anything negative regarding Zelda is futile.

I'm sort of a Doom 3 fanboy.

It sure doesn't take much for you to think someone is a "fanboy".  All I did was defend a few aspects of the game.  I am not much of a Zelda fan at all.  I am not at all into wandering and exploring in games, so sometimes it is hard for me to get through Zelda games.  This is why I prefer a game like RE4.  It's much more linear.  I actually like Wind Waker the most, and am not too fond of Ocarina (believe it or not).  There are things I dislike about Twilight Princess, but the good definitely outweighed the bad. It just bugs me when people say a game like that has "horrible" graphics.  No, Red Steel had horrible graphics.  Far Cry on the Wii had horrible graphics.  TP was beautifully drawn and has some of the best graphics on the Gamecube.  So to me, that says you don't like anything before the most recent generation.  If you can't like one of the best looking games on a last generation system, how can you like anything but the latest and greatest?  I guess my problem is that so often when a new system comes out that sets the bar higher, these elitists start calling everything else crap, like they are trying to impress everyone with how high their standards are.  Like only the very best impresses them, because they are so fricken cool.  It is EASILY my biggest pet peeve. Maybe you aren't being like that, but it sure seems like it to me.  Maybe TP's graphics aren't perfect, but they ARE NOT horrible.  That's just stupid to me.  I'm sorry.

I've owned a Wii system, along with Twilight Princess, for about 2 weeks now.

To make a long story short, I often wish I would have bought the Gamecube version instead.

The Wii controls are dream when it comes to using arrows/bomerang/etc, and it's great for selecting items off of your inventory screen......but.........

I hate the Wii controls for everything else.

Most especially, attacking with your sword. It feels like having to shake a bottle of salad dressing. Know how tiring/sickening it gets shaking a bottle of salad dressing?? Try it for more then a minute straight, tell me how "fun" it is.

I HATE the combat in this game. I'd much rather have a normal controller and push buttons instead.

The game itself is super-long, I'm about 45 hours into it, and I just finished the "Temple Of Time" last night.

Right now, I have the feeling that this game caters too much to the WindWaker-haters.

They went out their way to make this game have disturbing scenes, too-serious graphics, and violent occurances. There's alot of stuff in this game that seems pretty creepy/scarey to me. To be honest, I'm a bit turned off by the dark-tone often presented in this game.

I was a WindWaker-lover, and this game just isn't "me".

To be honest, I'll be happy to win this game and be done with it.

I'm tired of shaking the bottle of salad dressing and I'm sick of looking at giant  spiders.

Personally I like them for everything.  However, I do think they work best in the arrows/boomerang/etc., as you stated.

I think it's more for Ocarina of Time lovers than Wind Waker haters.

*Sigh* Danged if they do, and danged if they dont!  If they make it more childlike everyone complains that Nintendo is only suitable for kids.  If they add some adult elements (however tame, as they most certainly were in Twilight Princess), then they are lambasted for being too dark or creepy.

Twilight Princess is, to me, on an extremely rarified list of games that completely and utterly blew me away. Nothing is ever perfect, but a game such as this is as close as you are going to get.

I don't know - I think Resident Evil 4 may have been a little bit better.

Yes, but nothing is better than Resident Evil 4. I loved Twilight Princess, but Resident Evil 4 was better, and I wouldn't necessarily say it's my second favorite game after that. Probably in the top ten though.

I was NEVER a critic of Windwaker's cartoony upbeat qualities, I defended them.

My idea of Zelda is stuff like "Minish Cap", "A Link To The Past" and "Windwaker", those are all cartoonish, "kiddish" games by some, but it's what floats my boat.

I'm terribly afraid of spiders, and admit it, there's too many big freaky spiders in Twilight Princess. Most espcially when you explore dark caves for Heart-pieces, and you bump into big freaky spiders...........

And I don't care what anyone says, wiggling the remote like you're having a seisure to swordfight....it's stupid.

Even though I love the game, I have to agree a bit with your swordfighting complaint.  Only for the first few hours of the game was I actually "swinging" the remote like a sword when attacking enemies.  Eventually i found that just jiggling it got a much quicker response when i needed it, and that is what i eventually did for the majority of the game.  I guess if I used the other swinging methods like the stab or something more often, I might have had reason to swing it more realistically.  But it wasn't really necessary.

As far as the tone of the game, I think your fear of spiders may be pushing you a bit over the edge.  If you are scared by TP, you must have turned off RE4 within the first half hour and went to the corner of the room and rolled into the fetal position.
