Sony settles vibration suit

Postby VideoGameCritic » March 3rd, 2007, 1:14 pm

If you didn't hear, Sony settled the suit with the company that patented the vibration technology they were using in their controllers.  This could open the door for Sony to pull vibration back into their PS3 controllers. Do you think they will?

yeah, but it will be a new feature and cost you 60 bucks instead of 50 for a second controller

I don't think Sony would be that stupid.   The PS3 has been a huge failure so far, going from number 1 last gen, to number 3 this year, mostly because of its price.    They have already alienated their base by overpricing their system, so I doubt they would make vibrating controls cost more.   Its well known that companies make money off of accessories, so Sony could easily afford to price them at 50 bucks and still make a profit, especially considering the continuing lowering price of computer electronics.

I really really hope Sony makes vibrating controllers, because Metal Gear Solid 4 won't be the same without it.   I expect they will make vibrating controllers, but not in time for that game though.   Maybe they can add vibration to games already out through an online update.

definitely - I always thought it was strange they took it out. now we can see it was to avoid further financial damage when the lawsuit/negotiations weren't going their way...

Huge failure? Keep in mind Sony is still selling more systems then anybody else....PS2/PS3/PSP combined!

lol...

Sony is only winning in the last generation console war. They're losing on the handheld front and current generation console war (DS is beating PSP, and Wii and 360 are beating the PS3 with ease).

But I guess you can twist it however you like to sound good.

Talk to me in a year or so. Somebody will have to remind Nintendo that they actually have to release games for the Wii.

Yes, the PS3 has been a huge failure.  There is no other way to see it at all.

Yes the PS2 was a huge success.  In fact it still is a huge success.  Want proof?   Its currently out selling many systems, including the PS3.  I believe the PS2 is either the number one or number two best selling system of all time (with the PS1 being the other one)   The PSP has also been a moderate success.  It failed to wipe the clock of the DS like Sony claimed, but its sold over 20 million, and that's not bad at all.  So when you say PS2/PS3/PSP combined, the PS3 is the weak link on the sales chart.

Go to www.nexgenwars.com  The Wii and PS3 both launched about the same time.   The PS3 has sold 1.5 million systems.  The wii has sold 4.8 systems.   Sony might claim limited supplies, but that is hooey.   The problem is limited demand.  Even though they have sold 1.5 million systems, every store I go to, there are 5-10 systems sitting on the shelf.  Even though the Wii has sold 3 times what the PS3 has found, its demand is still sky high, and you have to search for a long time to find one.  Want even more proof that the PS3 has been a failure?   Look at the January sells charts.  http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12831/January-Wii-Outsold-Xbox-360-and-PS3/    The xbox 360 outsold the PS3, even though it has been out for over a year and the PS3 is supposed to be at "sky high demand"  All of Sony's systems in the past have been nothing but successes. (even though the success of the PSP is debatable I call it a mild success)  But there is no other way you can spin it, so far the PS3 has been a gigantic failure.    Last gen they dominated their comptition 4 to 1.   And right now, they are in last place.

Can sony change it?  Maybe.   Lower the price to about the same as the 360 (which would kill Sony)   and hurry up and get their exclusives out (Metal Gear Solid Gran Turismo etc)  and PS3 might make it back to second place, but I think they have already crushed their chance to regain first place.

I saw 6 PS3s on the shelf in Target today, as long as we're on the PS3 is a failure subject. They are usually stocked midweek so they've been sitting there for quite a while. Sony's going to have to make a price drop for that system to be a success.

Is there any subject that Shawn CAN'T turn into a Nintendo vs. Sony debate?  Not so far...
