Super Ghouls n' Ghosts
I downloaded it on the Virtual Console and man does this game piss me off. Its so hard to navigate the levels and Arthur's jumping mechanics blow wombat nuts. Yet the game is incredibly addicting at the same time. Damn I don't know if I should condemn or praise this game. Does anybody else have a love hate relationship with this game?
I for one prefer the Genesis game, because its easier and much more enjoyable. I must say, playing on the Virtual Console is actually better than the SNES because I can finally save my spot in the game without having to start at the beginning.
Also does anybody have any tips for playing this game? I just made it to the third level and it took me an hour and half!!

SGNG is still a cakewalk compared with the original NES Ghosts 'n' Goblins. Now that was a killer. You could continue for all eternity and not make much progress due to the insane difficulty.
Anyway, SGNG = better graphics and music than Genesis version, some real cool looking levels and beautiful tunes... but the Genesis version plays better (like the convenience of being able to shoot up) and never slows down down.
Just keep at it. Wait until you get to the level with pillars and neat looking water and tidal waves.. and this other level that has mode 7 rotation...

yeah, I had that game for the SNES. After leaving my SNES on for several days and finally beating it, only to find out you've got to go back through each level again I nearly cried. I'm not even sure I made it all the way through the second time but it certainly had some great levels with the mode7 scaling going on. The tower level was cool as was the level where it rotated all the way around you. Good stuff but way too hard for me these days.
Never have I actually said out loud "I hate this fricken' game!" and yet kept playing for so long.

Thats exactly how I feel about this game. I never actually get mad while playing...I die time and time again and just keep trying. The game is all about memorizing the levels and mastering evasive actions. Its very rewarding to go through, but man does it have some brutal difficulty.
My biggest gripe is why can't Arthur toss his weapons upward? Also whats up with the weak bosses, do they get harder? The first two were a let down and just getting to them was 10x more difficult than actually beating them.

Hey, you like the genesis version? If you got a xbox or PS2 make sure to pick up Capcom Classics volume. It has all three GnG games plus Street Fighter 2, Final Fight and a ton of other stuff. And you should be able to find it on amazon for about 15 bucks after shipping. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0009UUQGE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_olp_2/104-7549911-9641553?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1173322838&sr=8-2
But if you're really lucky, it was a clearence game at best buy for 5 bucks, but its probably gone by now. Either way, buying that awesome collection is certainly a better deal than Nintendo nickle and diming you, one game at a time.
I actually already own the Xbox version of Capcom Classics. I almost didn't buy Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the Wii, because I already own that version. Well to say that the game is nearly unplayable with the Xbox D-pad is an understatment. I hate that thing so much and I wish I bought Capcom Classics for my PS2 instead.
Anywho I love the Wii classic controller. Its just like an SNES pad and plus I can save my games anytime with the Wii version.
Thanks for the heads up though. I appreciate it.
