Can Michael Jackson save Sonic?

I'm really excited by the new Sonic game for the wii.   It has a lot of room for improvement, but it is a great new direction.   But one burdon of the past still sands, the Sound Track.    Every Sonic game since the invention of CD audio has been horrible.   They get horrible musicians to sing horrible songs.  I always mute the soundtrack to modern Sonic games.

It is well known tht Michael Jackson wrote the music for Sonic 3.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_3#Sonic_3_and_Michael_Jackson    They erased his name from the credits because of his molestation charge, but they kept much of the music.   And the music was all awesome.  I think they should have Michael Jackson write the music for the next Sonic game.  Sega is still on good terms with him considering he was a guest star in Space Channel.  Considering how horrible the music in Sonic games is currently, it couldn't hurt anything to bring him back.

Wow, I had no idea.  I'm actually a big fan of MJ's music (not much of a fan of him as a person anymore), and this makes me want to whoop out Sonic 3 and play through it.  That would be interesting to have him or someone who is renowned for music production to do the Sonic music instead of the Dr. Pepper-commercial band.

I'm of the persuation that *both* Sonic and Jackson are unsalvagable, and it would only bring them both down even more if Jackson did music for Sonic.

i thought the music on sonic 3 was the weakest in the genesis series... though it still clobbers the stuff on modern sonic games.

i think the problem is without limitations on sound, sega just inserts horrible metal and j pop into their games thinking americans will love it. jpop worked when it was downsampled to the genesis sound chip, as it sounded unique. it was something you could hear and instantly know it was music for sonic the hedgehog (likewise with the super mario bros theme).

now if you hear the music, that instant recognition is gone. if you just listen to any of the modern sonic soundtracks, you would only be able to assume its some lousy jpop anime intro theme song with really stupid lyrics.

Sonic3 had the worst music? Methinks Sonic and Knuckles was the worst in music and play.

I used to really like MJ's music, it was the only good part of MOONWALKER, an otherwise repetitive game... I loved Alien Ant Farms' remake of Smooth Criminal-whatever happened to that group anyway, anyone know? "Movies" was the last I saw of them.

I wanted to say, I agree, I miss the old 16 and 32 bit VIDEOGAME music soundtracks, nowadays it seems they just pick some unknown groups to play. Who can forget the masterful beat of STREETS OF RAGE or THUNDERFORCE 1 & 2 or RAIDEN on PSX?! Even the old sound effects of ASTEROIDS and CENTIPEDE and PAC-MAN.....ok everyone

They are still around.  I'm sure their fanbase is pretty small since they haven't had a hit single since their first album (they have at least three cds).

The band survived a near fatal tour bus accident a few years ago.  Just before they released their second album.  I tihink they were touring in Europe when it happened.

Believe it or not they arent are a half bad band.  I really liked their second cd and it showed lots of promise.  They seem like one of those bands that could fly under the radar for years and emerge with another catchy song.

Are you people crazy? Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles had the worst music? I'm pretty sure the original Sonic had the worst music. I know the moment you read that you start humming the first level music and think I'm crazy, but just try to see if you can remember any other level's music from that game. There are maybe 3 levels with good music (and bosses had good music), and other than that it sounds awful. I have to put the third level on mute or else I go insane. You guys need to lock Sonic 3 into Sonic and Knuckles and hear the awesomeness that the title screen music is.

i liked sonic & knuckles, i said the music from 3 was the weakest. but all the games indeed have bad stages... most of the time they are in the middle parts of the games.

Any truth to the rumor that Elton John composed the music for Thunder Force 3??

Hmm, not all lotta people like Sonic 3's music.  I always thought it was the best with the exception of Sonic CD.   But anyways, even you guys gotta agree that he would do a better job with the music, than whoever the hell is doing it right now.  Whoever thought the "SONIC HEROES SONIC HEEEROES!) song was a good idea needs to be fired.   My point is that the music of the Sonic is right now the worst of any game series I can think of, and Sega needs to take drastic measures.
