How to enjoy Wii Sports boxing

I keep hearing people saying they don't like Wii Sports Boxing because of the unresponsive controls, which is understandable assuming you have either not given the game a chance, or were not able to figure out what it is really about.  Let me assure you that it is actually a REALLY fun game, if you  A: Don't assume that your boxer is going to respond to EVERY punch you throw, even when he is still in the middle of another punch   B: Teach yourself to dodge and move side to side by holding the remote and nunchuk in the blocking position and lean them left and right.  C: Learn to lean towards and away from your opponent   D: Use all these skills to align yourself with your opponent for a quick couple punches, then dodge to the side or block his punches before your next attack.

Boxing gets easily the most play of all my Wii games because I have figured out this game, and am able to explain it correctly to my friends so they can enjoy it also.  Of course, at first, they go into it jumping all over the room throwing 3 or 4 punches a second, and getting nowhere.  The idea is to treat it more like Punch Out.  Lean left and right to move your boxer left and right, align yourself to your opponent, nail him, then get out of the way.  The game is an absolute BLAST when both boxers are moving around the ring, trying to align punches, and then knocking each other to the mat.  It is MUCH more deliberate and careful than everyone expects it to be, and then they say that it has unresponsive controls because they are wasting energy by flailing their arms out like mad, trying to land punches at 1000 per second..  That is just not how it works.  If you already get this and just don't like the game, fine.  Please just don't write it off until you learn the intricacies and movements that make this game what it is.  Trust me,  I wrote it off for the exact same reason, originally.  Then a friend insisted that we play it and he played it almost perfectly right from the start, even though it was his first time, and totally slaughtered me.  Now that I understand it, I love it.

Before tonight, I had actually only played Wii Sports Boxing once since I've had my Wii and that was just playing the mini-game where you hit the punching bag.  I was a little turned off by it since, like others have said, the controls seemed unresponsive.  But after reading your post, I decided to try it again tonight.  And I gotta say that I did find it to be kinda fun.  Now, is the game perfect?  No.  Are the controls great?  Not really.  But I definitely did not find it to be unplayable.  And I'm sure that the game can be a lot of fun playing against another person.  Now I can't wait to have someone over to try it out!

By the way Paul, I can't tell you about general hooks, but it is really easy to get a low hook right into the stomach of the other player. Just do the motion.
