Okay seriously, first, I used to love Family Guy but the fourth season was starting to gross even ME out. Then yesterday, first show on the second disc, Brian owes my favorite character, Stewie, 50 bucks. Soooo, Stewie starts beating the living crap out of brian like a mobster. Glass in eyes, kick to ribs, he SHOOTS him in the legs (where did the gun come from BTW?) and sets FIRE to him. I'm selling the set. It went too far for me. I'm VERY upset that they did this to my favorite show, season 2's Stewie and Brian "On the road to rhode Island" was WONDERFUL. Some death jokes, cracks, and poop jokes, fine! but THIS!? Who in HELL thought it was funny for the baby to pretty much bloodily MURDER the dog in a cartoon!? Well, THIS is why Violence in games is bothering me, it's not just games, it's saturating ALL our media. Give me Peter in a Tutu over peter roasted for dinner anyday of the week!

Also, at least back in 2600 days, the viloent games Halloween and especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre were, like Custers Revenge, BORING! Today I would call the games more Disturbing. Doesn't anyone eventually feel kinda bad gunning down people in cold blood over n over n over, hearing the screams, -please tell me you don't wish it was REAL? Since REAL is what these games strive for. I picture it this way: I like space invaders, shooting little abstract shapes on the screen- turn those abstract shapes into screaming people spurting blood, I get grossed out and walk away. Maybe it's just me...ok, the soap box, it is KAPUT.

so, in a nutshell, you don't like to generalise, and you are tolerant of religion, and religious belief that falls within your ethical and moral standards, and behaviour which you deem acceptable. In other words, in religion, your tolerate what you consider tolerable.

I think the Family Guy creators are resorting to over-the-top violence because they are out of ideas. I would also prefer if the show was just funny instead of grotesque. The stupid Peter jokes always get the most laughs out of me, and I think most fans of the show, as well.

Sorry if this thread got out of hand….

If its one thing I’ve learned, its that everyone has some sort of opinion about religion and spirituality. Believe me, I’ve questioned the heck out of everything, and I encourage everyone to seek out the truth earnestly. My relationship with JC has made my life awesomely worthwhile, not ‘Christianity’ or religion.

Anyway, out of respect to the site, on to videogames…

Videogames are a major form of entertainment to me (2^nd to music, even though its only ½ hour a day—I’ve watched about 4 movies since becoming a parent). What I was asking in the beginning, and I dunno, maybe it should have been directed at other Christians, was if they struggled with avoiding certain games because of their faith. I don’t mean the obvious stuff like GTA or Mortal Kombat, but the less-obvious (and really fun) ones…

Well I *am* known for my gall, but in this case, I didn't need to use any of it. You made a sweeping generalization of all religious people that doesn't apply to reality. I pointed it out. I was glad to do so.

I suppose I don't see the contradiction in pointing that out either. If a religion supports murdering innocents for instance, I will not tolerate that religion. If on the other hand the precepts only affect those who choose to follow that religion, I am tolerant. If someone belongs to a religion that supports murdering innocents, but personally doesn't believe that tenet of his faith is valid (or perhaps he believes strongly that it is misinterpreted), then obviously I can't just decide to hate him based on a sweeping generalization.

It's called CONSISTENCY, but as you pointed out, some heavy-handed nihilists substitute other words for it.

About religion-I try to stay away from this subject, but I had to quote something in STAR TREK magazine this month. They "reviewed" all the movies. Of course, Star Trek 5: The Final Fronteir was singled out as the worst trek movie ever, rightfully so. And The producer recalls how William Shatner, the director, came in one morning saying "In this movie the Enterprise FINDS GOD!" -he
thought that was a GREAT idea.

And the producer shook his head sadly, saying "Will.. this will never work, and let me tell you why. YOUR god is not MY god or anyone elses god! The Enterprise can find peace, love or happiness but it simply cannot "Find God"!"

I thought that was very well put!...too bad Shatner is so stubborn and went with his idea anyway!

I don't think that representation of "God" was anybody's. Not even the Heaven's Gate cult could have suspended their disbelief consistently through that mess of a movie.

5 stinks true, but 3 is the worst, especially because it followed up on 2, The Wrath of Khan, which is awesome by any standard. The acting on 3 was terrible, especially that chick who took over for Kristie Alley, I loved her sermon to David about his irresponsible sicence. And who cast Christopher Lloyd as Klignon (sp?) warlord? Oh, man.
