Oh man, you hadda press my button didn't you? I'm a TREKKIE. The Best to worst Trek movies IMHO ARE...Trek 2, Trek 4, Trek 6, First Contact, Trek 1, TREK THREE!, Insurrection , Generations, Nemesis and Trek 5. I can watch all of those over again and find SOMETHING good in them (the cool Galaxy core effect or Trek 5, the Enterprise-E being smashed in Nemesis)... though I cringe a lot at Trek 5 and Nemesis..eeeyuck!

But Star Trek three was a VERY GOOD continuation of the story that starts in "Trek two:Revenge of Kahn" and ends in Trek 4:Voyage home. 3:Search for spock had a bad name and yes, I too missed Kirstie Alley (she was ONE SEXY VULCAN!)..Robin Curtis was "ok" but only just. But Christopher Lyod was MAGNIFICENT, one of the best Klingons EVER; the drama of Kirk losing his son, The battle near the end, And the heartwarming conclusion (Spock)... "Jim!.. Your..name....is JIM!" I remember the audience going wild at that and even tears flowing. Deffinitely the weak link of 2/3/4, I admit, BUT STILL A DAMNED GOOD MOVIE!!!!! - end of today's rabid trekkie rant!

Okay, I'll bite and post one more time in this rather extraordinary thread. Definitely a hall of fame candidate.

First, to Voor: You're exactly right. People miss that point quite often.

Trek: Yeah, V stinks, badly. I went through a pretty hard core Star Trek stage in my life, but I could never like V. You're right on, m0zart, in your appraisal of the movie.

I did like the whole Spock/Kirk/McCoy campfire thing, because the relationship of those three guys should always be a cornerstone of good, original Trek. However, the movie quickly spun out of control when they introduced the Sybok character. I mean, it got Cd-i Zelda bad at that point.

I've never really been into Star Trek, I saw one of the movies with my dad when I was little. I'm not really into Picard trek but I've seen a couple of decent episodes of DS9. Any season recommendations for DS9. Also how is Voyager and Enterprise? I really liked Scot Bakula in Quantum Leap.

coming from a fan, I can honestly say that the majority of Star Trek sucks. Outside of the original and TNG, there are few episodes worth watching. They should have stopped after DS9. However, I personally think that First Contact was the best movie; great effects for 1996, TNG cast, and the Borg just make for a great watch, regardless of whether or not you're a fan. I recently purchased the 2-disc special edition DVD remastered with dolby 5.1 surroundsound for 8 dollars

I don't buy many DVD's, because its a rare movie that  I want to watch more than a rental. But I have to buy Wrath of Khan. Ricardo Montawhoever was just plain awesome in that movie. The soundtrack is an A+, and the way Spock dies, what a perfectly crafted scene. Forshadowed by Spock giving Kirk a copy of "Tale of Two Cities" for his birthday, the ultimate gift of laying down your life to preserve other lives. I'm sure I sound like a nerd, but that's maybe because I am one. Not a Trekkie, but I love that movie.

Quietflight; Ironux is correct about First Contact being good but don't listen to his other rants He is insane!

Kids these days!
I was BORN in '66, the year that the ORIGINAL Star Trek came out, and I watched every episode at least 3 times in syndication! THE ORIGINAL IS, WAS and will always BE the best! However, Next Gen was great too, though not as much action and too much PC! Deep Space 9 was very good but much darker; I reccomend seson one actually, I still think it's the best. Voyager was great, nice to have a (good looking!) woman as captain, but it drifted a little as the ship was so cut off from the rest of the Trek universe. I HATED Enterprise and I too am a Quantum leap fan! I thought it was a sure thing, but going back just didn't work for Trek like it did Star Wars. Best thing about Enterprise was the themesong!

I just watched a couple of episodes from DS9. It was from Sisko trying to take back the station from the Dominion? They had some pretty cool space armada battles.

Yes, Voor, sorry we got Star-trek sidetracked but when someone makes a TREK comment, It is bait for me (one whole wall of my bedroom is covered in Trek Figures, mint in package!)

Two more things: I kinda didn't like the whole Dominion WAR thing, Trek was Gene Roddenberrys vision of a peaceful, utopion future where we all worked together. Yes, in the Original series they faced war-like races like the Klingons, but ultimately some force stopped them from "a Glorious war" ("A private little war", either season one or 2)...DS9 was always dark and gritty, but when they turned war mongering I kinda lost interest. Voyager was a refreshing step back to a cleaner, brighter future!

I also am an Artist and model builder and miss the days of Model effects. Everything is CG these days! -ok, lets get OFF trek!
