Everybody bashes EA, I can't figure it out. I love the company and play far too many of their games to complain about it. It is simple. If you hate the company for your holier then thou reasons then don't buy their products. 7 expansion packs? Why is that bad? Don't buy it. It is simple economics. I don't like paying the high price of a Red Sox game so I don't go even though I can easily afford it. I love your line that sounds more like the decision of a suit who wanted to make money...ya! That is what a company has to do to pay its bills, vendors, employees and satisfy its shareholders. Oh and by the way, if people didn't buy expansion pack one and two there wouldn't be four or five more! So therefore the demand is high which satisfies customers needs. Basically what I am saying is EA is just giving the people what they want. I can't believe you called him a suit. What are you some tree hugging hippie? Peace!

"holier than thou reason?"   Did you even read my post?   This isn't about EA making money.   They are by far the world's most profitable 3rd party game maker.  But they do it through illegal reasons, aka not paying proper overtime.   And at the same time they try to censor all of their games to claim they have morals.   If anyone is claims to be "holier than thou" it is probst, cewrtainly not me.

And allow me to further my claim of what a "suit" is.   A suit is someone who doesn't touch the games in development who handles the business side of things, but doesn't go through the creative process.   I never like it when the suits handle the creative process.   I can't believe you would call me a "hippy"  for calling the guys in charge the suits.   Thats a common term, and it has nothing to do with being a hippy.   Trust me, I am no hippy.

All I am pointing out is that Larry Probst lied.   I will bet you 10,000 to 1 that Will Wright did not want to make 7 expansion packs to the sims.   Will Wright is one of the most creative people in the world, and he is always wanting to try new things out.   He has complained about EA's demands in the past, and after making 7 expansions to it, they finally let him make spore.   I wouldn't call that "allowing him to do what he wants"   I call that a lie.  ANd for the record, I didn't buy any of the expansion packs.

[/QUOTE]

That is pretty typical of Shawn's rants.  Personally attacking you and blaming you for things you didn't say or even imply.  I also was wondering what the hell he was talking about with "holier than thou".

It was "inferred'. Paul look it up if you need help with that big word. I wasn't attacking him.

You are being "holier then thou". Not paying overtime? Who bleeping cares. If you don't like your work conditions get a new job...slavery has been abolished for many years. In fact, I am going to buy MORE EA games b/c they have unfair labor practices. Heck, to top it off I'll buy it from Walmart b/c they don't have benefits or pay overtime either.

Yeah, and I want to imply what I mean by "suit"  I do not necessarily mean it as a negative term.  I mean it as some  who is in charge, who generally wears a suit.   Every company needs "suits" of course.   I actually learned the word suit from laborers, not hippies.  When I worked for the park district, one of the guys complained about the suits coming down and telling him how to do his job.   Why would hippies complain about "suits,"  after all as Eric Cartman says, hippies don't work.

Ea has a ton of great minds working for them.  Will wright is a great example.  But the problem is, that the suits there (again suit is not a negative term just meaned to be a quick way to get to the point, the guys in charge etc)  go to the Sam walton school of business, by making everything standard and un-unique, and not paying their employees proper wages or overtime.   I know EA makes a ton of money, but I do not appreciate the way they do it.    DId you know that George Lucas shared the profits of star wars with his employees?   That is the way to do it.  Considering how much money EA, they have no excuse to not pay their employees proper wages and the overtime stuff is ridiculous.

Don't be stupid.  You would care if you were working for them.  It may not bother you, but it bothers some people.  Try to calm down and talk like a grown up instead of flipping out like this all the time.  Can we have one normal thread on this forum anymore?

If you worked 80-90 hour weeks like many EA employees had and then didn't get your overtime, you would be angry also.   In this country, overtime is not a priviledge, it is a right.    A company has to pay you for any overtime, no matter what, no matter if you look for another job.

EA knew they were wrong, thats why they agreed to settle with the people who came foward.  http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=9970   But what about the people who didnt come foward for fear of losing their jobs, they will never get their overtime, and that is illegal.  And who knows if they are still doing it?  And also the people who got their money, who knows how much was taken in away in legal fees, etc.

"

Now that's just ridiculous, how am I supposed to debate this.  So you want your game developers to be forced to work 80 hour weeks yet not get paid for it.  Thats what EA is doing.   Why don't you write a letter to all the game makers EA screwed over and tell them that.  I'm sure they would be happy to hear from you.

And this isn't about "liking your working conditions" as you said.  This is about EA not fulfilling their legal obligation to their employees.   There is no law saying you have to like your job, but there is a law saying you have to pay your employees for their work, and EA was breaking it.

Dude, I don't know what you're smoking but overtime isn't a right.  When you're salaried there is no overtime pay.  If you don't like the hours you put in, find another job.  I did.  It's not all that hard.

You're right, and I didn't mean to imply that here.   But that obviously isn't the case here and that is why there was a lawsuit.

I think the argument that you should just quit if you don't like your pay is simply a little heartless. It sounds easy. For some and it isn't a big deal but for others that have a family and need insurance and other things it isn't so easy.

Sure they could go find another job while they're still working there... but how are they supposed to do that when they are working 80 hour weeks and have no breaks in between projects? Sometimes it isn't as simple as go find another job. However things seem to have turned around there since the lawsuit. There doesn't seem to be any big complaints and hopefully they've changed a few things to make the work environment better.

Yes, but it is a right if you're not on a salary. I don't believe the EA workers that sued were salaried.
