Stupid Game Titles

Postby snakeboy1 » March 12th, 2007, 8:33 pm

So I see that there is a game for the PSP called "Chili Con Carnage", and I immediately think to myself, "That's a pretty dumb name for a video game."  I guess whoever came up with the name was trying to be clever, but it just comes across as being really hokey.

I know that there are some other really bad game titles out there, but I can't think of any right now off the top of my head.  What do you think is the worst one?

Viewtiful Joe was a great game with a terrible name.

The worst has to go to that NES Fighting Golf game. There is no fighting in it whatsoever. This could have been Ninja Golf for the NES, but no dice.

It seems like since the last couple generations, that game companies are running out of ideas for names.

I've heard of a racing game for the GBA called Karnaaj. Here's the cover art:

Yeah they REALLY wanted this to sell.

HERZOG ZWEI = great game, TERRIBLE name. No wonder it sold poorly.

"...running out of names".

No, even back in 2600 days they had bad names, one whole company was named BOMB and they released Z-tack. Also, Ssssnake, Bugs,
Zenji, Mortal Kombat (why the "K"?), Pooyan, Naughty Boy, Blob,
annnnd Boogerman.

Come to think, Pac-Man is a pretty awful name. Most people
wouldn't like it had the game not been so good, so I guess
"A rose by any other name.." (Munch Man made more sense).

Yes Pac-Man is an awful name. Pac Attack, and Pac Mania are even worse if you ask me. I bet the next one will be called Pac Man Super Pacing.

apparently it seems that german is considered an exotic language by the japanese ... herzog zwei, schwarzschild, (galaxy) fräulein etc. - for me it has always been funny to import those games to germany

I dislike titles that need two colons. In other words, they have a subtitle and a sub-subtitle.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader
The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II: The Rise of the Witch-King

I always thought the 2K6, 2K7 thing is pretty stupid too. Since when is that an acceptable way of abbreviating a year?  I wonder what they're going to do when 2010 comes along... 2K10?  At that point, the "abbreviation" would be as long (4 characters) as the actual year itself.

Isn't the 2K thing due to copyright issues? Like if EA releases NFL 2007, they have to release something different?
