Starfox, or Virtua Racing?

In the early-mid nineties, Sega and Nintendo each made a game for their respective Genesis and SNES consoles. These games had some sort of graphics-enhancing chip to give them 3D visuals. These games were Virtua Racing, a racecar game with triangle trees and dodecahedron mountains, and Star Fox, a space shooting game with cube robots and rectangular prism skyscrapers. I thought it would be interesting to start a topic with the following premise: which of these two super FX/SVP chip games is the best?

Are you asking the Critic, or everyone?

I think Star Fox easily beats it in every area.

they are two completely different types of games, both play well, both looked good for their time and both had decent frame rates for their time. one is a rail shooter and the other is a very dam good home port of an arcade game.

it all depends on what type of games you like.

now if you want a direct comparison...

I totally agree with Chrisbid, you CANNOT compare these games, besides the special chips and 3-D they are completely different! It's like comparing Asteroids to Pole Position!

One is a Space shooter, the other is a racing game. To be honest I wasn't crazy about either (yes I bought BOTH, $102.38 with tax for Virtua Racing! WOW!)... I like racing games but VR was TOO ambitious for the time; Outrun was actually more enjoyable. In fact (Oh, CRITICCC..!) POLE POSITION 2 on 7800 was better!

I was wowed by Starfox same as everyone, but once the Awe factor wore off, I thought it was very boring and the insipid animal mascot characters ruined what SHOULD have been a serious "Wing Commander" style game. Thumbs down to both!
