Never believe me

So, despite all my protests against the new generation, I prove to be completely weak in the face of the gaming industry.  I'm on a business trip and I brought my fiancee with me.  At night we've been going shopping, as this town with 7000 people is still much bigger than the town of 1500 people where we currently live.
Anyway, long story short, tonight is our last night here, and what do I find in the Wal-Mart, but a new Wii shipment (or part of it anyway, there were 2 there, and they had arrived sometime since last night).  As this is my first encounter with one (when I lived in the city they were impossible to find), I was very tempted.  I looked over at my fiancee and said "you know, this time three motnhs ago, I'd have bought that on the spot".  She reached into her purse, pulled out the credit card, and said "you better buy a second controller".  Now, my will power was low to begin with, but when she basically says "buy one" when I just said "I'm not buying one", well, all the willpower in the world won't stop me.

Anyway, here I am now with a Wii and a copy of Wiiplay (I mean, in for a penny in for a pound right).  Oh, and a hotel TV that, sadly, doesn't have AV inputs.

So basically, whatever I say to the contrary, I guess I'm still just a sad slave to gaming.

My wife did the same thing to me. About a month and a half ago she saw one sitting at Walmart - the last one. So she bought it and brought it home. I could have walked on by at the store, but sitting there at home...I had to open it up. I'm so weak. I have to get back in my GC mode of buying things at half price.

But, good for you - I hope you enjoy it.

Atarifever and Steerforth, are your wives gamers, or is the Wii the first system they've shown interest in?

My wife games just a little, she's drawn in to a 'cute' game, but she generaly doesn't have enough interest to finish them. She is a fan of PACMAN, DKC, and Smash Brothers. The Wii is allegedly a Fathers Day/ aniversery / birthday gift for me, all in one. Actually, she is pretty good at Smash Brothers. I hate buying movie themed games, (Nemo, Curious George, etc.), I try to explain that just because she liked the movie doesn't mean the game is worth it. Enjoy the book, enjoy the movie, leave the game!

I know how you feel Atarifever! Remember, not long ago I was sworn to stay out of the "systems race" (except portables) and not play anything post-PSone!

HAHAHAHA!

Now I have PS2 AND Xbox, and will grab a cube too if I get one cheap enough. Although not mega crazy about 3D games, I like SOME (Racing, some platformers) and there are many 2D games now as well between all 3!

I've said before, MY exwife, one of the good/bad things about her was she LOVES games, even plays more than ME! Thats the good, the bad was she likes 'em SO much She swiped a LOT of my games after the divorce (she was supposed to return em, but "Forgot"-right!)

That's hilarious, and precisely why I ended up with a Wii also. I was trying to be all "responsible" and save up the money, Christmas was coming, after all, when my wife basically said (on the weekend that it was released): "You should get one. It looks interesting."

She didn't need to tell me twice.

I couldn't snag one on opening weekend, but I managed to track one down on "Black Friday." I've been enjoying it ever since.

Because, you know, all I want to do with my life gaming wise is play mini games and sequels .

P.S. Just borrowed Excite Truck from my father in law. Man, you guys are right about that game- it totally rocks. The reviewers really missed the boat on that one.

Totally.  My wife talked me into getting Excite Truck way earlier than I was planning because our friends were coming over in a few days and he is a Mario Kart maniac, so she wanted us to be able to try something new.  Plus she had tried it at a game store when the Wii first came out and had been reminding me that she wanted it for a long time.

That game is SUCH a rush to play once you get the hang of it.  Something about the steering controls make you feel much more involved, and for some reason I feel way more into it than when I am using a normal steering wheel controller.  Maybe it lets you use your imagination a bit, I dunno.  My friend was so into it that he would actually shake the contoller without even realizing it when he went off road, like it had this incredible force feedback or something, as if the rocks and bumps were effecting his steering.  His wife noticed it an when she pointed it out he was pretty embarassed.  Awesome game.  How DID the critics miss this one?  Actually, I think they are all coming around now.  Wasn't it named the "best game you're not playing" or something by IGN?
