Any Shmup Fans Out There?

Postby ZetaX1 » March 20th, 2007, 1:11 am

Hey guys,

Anyone else waiting anxiously for a new shoot-em-up?  Have you heard about the port of Dreamcast game Radio Allergy to Gamecube, or Raiden III for PS2?  They're both supposed to be out anytime now (looks like pushed to next month for R-A).  The 'big' game sites are too worried about rehashes of Godfather and Prince of Persia to give these games any sort of coverage.  Has anyone heard anything new about them from the local EB Games/Gamestop dude (or dude-ette)?

Besides hating that term and preferring to call them shooters, I'm a fan. However these two games look lacking. Radio Allergy looks like its really lacking in the YouTube videos out there, and Raiden doesn't look deserving of the name at all.

I don't think EB is planning on carrying Radio Allergy.

I just received Soukyugurentai, Layer Section II (Saturn) and Strikers 1945 (psx). I really want to try Einhander and G-Darius for psx.

I'm a HUGE shooter (I call them 2-D shooters, as oppsed to 3D FPS shooters) fan, and my favorite game on a system is often a shooter. Quetflight: I own G-Darius for PSX and it is one of the best shooters ever! Highly reccomended! I also am playing Darius Gaiden for Saturn again right now, another good game (I am a tropical fish keeper too, and a pieces-I love fish!)

I love the Raiden series too, but have not seen anything on the new game. Is it 2-D at least? If it is 2-D I will get it for my PS2. I haven't had a good 2-D shooter in awhile!

I don't really care about the GC port, especially when Karous is now out on the DC which looks much more stylish and has an awesome drum and bass soundtrack (shooters have needed this for years in my opinion).  Also planning to pick up the recently released Trigger Heart Exelica for DC.

What do you guys use to play imports on your Dreamcast?  I remember there was some disk-based thing (DreamX? Something like that...)  I've also read that a Gameshark will let you play imports, but I'm not sure where you find the 'codes', or whatever you need to enter to get them to load right.  I've never bothered with the whole import scene, been kinda leary of it for some reason.

The Saturn import scene is probably the best there is.

The PlayStation 1 and DC Jap scenes give the Saturn a good run for its money in terms of fighters and shooters and are quite comparable.

I use the disc DC-X.  It's meant to have the widest compatability.

I really love Soukyugurentai. We've been playing two player in my dorm all week. I am trying to think of a Saturn import game I played a long time ago. It's a similar run and gun stayle game to Metal Slug. You're in control of a little mech. Anyways this game really makes me wish I could try Radiant Silvergun (
