The Ace Combat series has been a lot of fun I think, even though I'm not very far into the three PS2 games, but I've enjoyed every bit of it so far. So i think its good news.
As for DMC, I haven't had a chance to play the three of them yet even though I bought that bundle of all three a month or two ago, so I'll reserve judgement.
"I just don't really find it news that a company decides to bring a franchise over to multiplatforms"
Its big news when several franchises that have been big sellers and traditionally have been Sony exclusives, go multiplatform.
"If you look back throughout Sony's history as a gaming company they always let game go to multiple formats. Very few games that aren't created by Sony stay on their system. Final Fantasy and Metal Gear and a few other RPGs really are the only thing that come to mind."
You're making it out like its Sony's decision. These are independent third party developers. And Final Fantasy and Metal Gear haven't been Sony exclusives since the PSOne/N64 era.
" remember when Crash Bandicoot was the unofficial mascot for the PS1...it didn't take long for Crash to jump ship and that was one of the biggest games on that system."
That didn't occur until what, 2001 or so? It was a Sony exclusive brand for quite a long time.
"You'll find that the majority of the people who hiijack threads with anti-Wii smacktalk are in that camp. They are the equivalent to the irate callers you hear on sports talk radio. "
I agree, and the Nintendo can't do no wrong posters that seem just as common are just as annoying. I wish everyone didn't feel oligated to pull for the system of that generation that they decided to purchase and attack the competition.

Yeah Superjay, keep it straight, JLH has a PS3.
Along with my PS3 and Wii I also own a Xbox 360...
And no I don't favor one over the other. Each system has different games that I enjoy along with different strengths and weaknesses.
I would understand why someone who has all three system would not care if any of them go multi platform but if some one has just one system then it is to there benefit if most games that they want are on just one system. I'm sorry about making fun of the Wii. I just assumed everybody in here is in love with the Wii because every other thread is about the Wii. I was posting good news and the first person to respond tells me the news is meaningless. I felt like I got kicked in the balls, so my natural instinct is to kick back. If you don't care fine but don't try to rain on my parade because I'm happy about it. This is good to 360 owners. PS3 will still have God of War, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy but I'm happy we are getting more great games.

Sorry man...I certainly wasn't trying to rain on your parade. My feelings towards those franchises has soured a while ago. The new games might renew my interest, but from what I've seen of DMC4 its gonna be more of the same.
You are correct in saying that 360 owners should be happy about this. They should have known it was coming...its been a rumor for a long time. Just like people shouldn't be surprised when Metal Gear hits Microsoft's brand for the second time...its gonna happen
Reading the PS3 fanboy reactions online is pretty hilarious. I know alot of PS3 fans felt like they got kicked in the balls after hearing it. People get way too into system wars. Besides DMC4 is still going to sell PS3s in Japan...you can't give away a 360 in that country.
I agree with Leo...people shouldn't pull for any specific system. You can have a favorite, but trying to impose its awesomeness onto others is pretty lame. Just have fun gaming...thats all that matters.
Why buy a PS3 when the Xbox360 is cheaper and has a much better selection of games?
Because as an all-around gamer, there will be attractive "must-play" games on something other than your chosen platform. I would be easily lamenting the great games I'd have missed out on if I had only went with one or even two of the consoles from last gen.

I can tell you the three people who can't go 8 seconds without saying Wii around here aren't people playing the system. (Well, actually, with Shawn's new, more well argued persona, it's down to two people).

I don't have a "chosen platform" and I own 15 consoles. If you read my posts enough you will see I have no problem trashing any of the systems when the time calls for it. For example, I trashed the 360 Backward Compatibility disaster and Peter Moore basically lying saying "gamers don't want backward compatibility." I will buy a PS3, someday... maybe. That question was meant to be asked from the perspective of a casual gamer, who generally doesn't want to spend 1250 to buy all three consoles. And the sales charts are reflecting that as the Xbox 360 is outselling the PS3 2 to 1 and the Wii is outselling the PS3 3 to 1.
Right now the only person I could recommend a PS3 to is an extreme hardcore Gamer who must own all the systems and already has a 360(aka TheVideoGameCritic). Of course that variety of gamer is rare, so in this instance, there is little justification for spending 600 or 500 bucks on a console that doesn't currently offer the same quality of games as it's 400 dollar competitor.
Unfortunately in a capitalist society, you sometimes have to make choices on what you can afford, and most people cannot afford every video game ever made. And at the moment I have to make that choice. I really want to play Resistance, but is it worth 600 bucks right now? Not for me I'm gonna wait. And most other people are making that choice.
The systems all have their plusses and minuses right now, but all systems are not created equal. the Xbox 360 has far more plusses and less minuses than the PS3 right now.

I could start another thread for this, but I'll post it here because we are talking bout the 360.
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/hdmi-enabled-black-xbox-360-in-late-april-for-479/ This story basically confirms the Xbox 360 version 2.0. If you read the fine print, eventually microsoft is going to get rid of the current "premium edition" and replace it with this elite package. If this is true then the 360 will be actually going up in price...The elite version will retail for $479.
I can understand wanting to replace all the 360's that are basically counting down the days until their death, but a price increase? That doesn't seem to smart to me.
People will probably go nuts to get their mitts on one of the limited edition Black Elite units...but why would Microsoft narrow the margin between the PS3 and 360 cost points? That doesn't seem like smart business to me.

Whoa! You really read more into my response than I intended. I was not calling you a fanboy, nor was I suggesting that you had picked your fanboy platform. The response seems to come from the area of the mind that supposes I did. It's probably my fault because I included the term "all-around gamer", which could be taken to imply that you were not one of those. If that was the implication, I assure you it was unintentional. The objection to using the term "chosen platform" seems paltry at best. Regardless of what reason you pick the 360 over the PS3, the 360 will be your "chosen platform" in that case.
The only thing I tried to do in that response was answer the "why" question you asked. Since I am someone who now has all three, I am answering the "why" part from my perspective. Of course, I didn't realize the question was only for casual gamers, a category I may or may not fit into, depending on the yardstick criteria applied to the overall taxonomy of gamers.

I know this is off-topic, but I wouldn't call that unfortunate. In a purely communist country without capitalist countries to provide some form of trade to, I don't think there'd be much chance of getting technology equivalent to an Atari 2600 at the kind of prices the masses could afford. This is an example of how I read philosophy and politics into anything, so feel free to ignore it if it's not interesting to you.

I will DEFINITELY be getting one of those. I am little miffed that HD-DVD and WIFI are not included, but still it seems like a good option to me so long as the new cooler processor is available.

Yeah, but its called the "elite edition" because its not meant for everyone. I higly doubt that they will remove 300 or 400 dollar Xbox, infact they are overdue for a pricedrop which will probably be happening soon. But if they do get rid of the 400 dollar 360 then I highly expect the new Xbox will be the same price. Supposedly Microsoft is already selling the Xbox 360 at a gain and they are selling at a great rate so why would they want to change that? You said your article says they are pulling the premium but I don't see where its at. From my reading of the article it appears there will be 3 models.
LOL and mozart, don't worry, I'm not calling for a communist revolution. Communism is a horrible form of government as every country that has tried it collapsed itself. Capitalism is a far better form of government, but of course it has its problems. But as history has shown, capitalism countries seem to do well, as long as they some governmental safety net, and the democrats and republicans will argue over how big that safety net is, but over all they have the same philosophy. And I need to learn how to quit making run-on sentences.

It depends on your leadership. Russia didn't fall apart under ole Nikita Kruschef (sp?), thats for sure, and imagine the rebulding Russia and the rest of Europe had to do after the second World War. Postwar, the mainland U.S. was all nice and set to turn its wartime production into peacetime private industries, so we were able to loan money to the rest of the world. Then we invented the military/industrialist complrex to federally underwrite our big fat corporations. Whats good for General Motors is good for the USA!
Presently China is communist and they are growing like mad. All depends on time and place, and leadership.
Back to Sony, they apparently are not THE sure bet for 3rd parties anymore, so I guess we will go back in time to when 1rst party titles played a bigger part in defining consoles, advantage Nintendo. I posted N's lineup for the comming year, someone should post Sonys and Microsofts exclusives for contrast.
If Microsoft buys enough independent studios, they might find a hit once in a while. But Nintendo is looking very shrewed, they never seem to panic or overreach, and they figured out people were getting bored with the status quo. What is interesting is that Wii Sports and Wii Play are selling big in Japan, but TP and Wario really are not. I think we are going to see a lot of non traditional content for the Wii, and that suits me just fine.
Still, the best bet for another year or two is PS2, the king (at least commercialy) of all consoles. And still growing.
