Is the PS3 the new Jaguar?
I think alot of people on here get miffed when most threads talk about Nintendo or the Wii...but this is primarily a classic gaming site. The Critic does have the latest and greatest systems, but I found this site looking for 3DO reviews a few years ago. That being said most people here usually have an affinity towards three specific companies...Atari, Sega and Nintendo. It goes without saying that alot of talk is gonna involve those three companies.
Since most of us grew up with those companies we tend to talk about them more. Also its easy for people to get behind Nintendo because they have fallen so far from grace in many gamer's eyes. People love the underdog and Nintendo is up against huge odds.
I don't mind arguing in favor of the PS3 from time to time. I think its a good system and I enjoy it...that being said I don't think Sony has handled the system all that well. They are doing better though (GDC was great for Sony). On most sites people look for an excuse to rag on the system. Its like the New York Yankees...everyone wants to see them lose because people get tired of seeing them come in 1st place. You have to take it with a grain of salt, because the same people that call the PS3 a piece of crap will probably own one in a year or two.
I would never in a million years say the Critic hates Sony. Though I think he is a little stuck in the golden age of games, and he doesn't like change too much (online play, downloadable content)...he certainly doesn't come across as biased.

what i find most interesting is the 360 isnt doing so well either. and it makes perfect sense really, as no console have ever done extremely well when priced over 300 bucks.

I personally think the 360 is the most vanilla console ever created...and I don't mean that in a bad way. The system just doesn't do anything out of the ordinary. Microsoft just took the safest route possible and created a new system. They literally took zero chances with the console. Its still a great system, but man they really didn't try too hard to do anything innovative.

It's revolutionised gaming for me. I moved away from home for work but now every evening I am on the personal chat to friends from home while playing something like Oblivion. Gaming is now far more social.
The idea of an offline system is a bit alien to me now.
Not to mention that the 360 invented the whole idea of a console having a downloadable small game area for indie developers.
Oh and XNA PEOPLE!!!! Come on when have you ever been able to develop at home for a console?!?! Don't say the Net Yaroze, that was a joke and I tried the DC dev tools they were a joke too.
Then there's Live Anywhere coming.
Sooooo vanilla.

Okay, I understand you may be 16 or something, but allow me to point out something.
hahaha!
I'm 36 and my first computer was a Sinclair Spectrum in 1982! I've owned a Spectrum (the best!), NES, Amiga, Megadrive/Genesis, Playstation, N64, Playstation 2, Gamecube, Game Boy, Game Boy Colour and a DS Lite.
So let me point out something - Most people I know DO NOT play video games. A few that do are not IN to video games, it is an occasional box in the corner. To them, Playstation IS video gaming. That may change, sure, but there is a still a lot of momentum behind Sony with these people and developers know that.
But you sound like such a freaking expert, you must be right

Well sure numbers wise it did better. However, the SNES was a distant second place as far as "systems that don't suck" went.
Why? Because you said so? I didn't realize you were the measuring stick for the universe.
Well, just as long as you know now.
Oh, I absolutely do. And I am eternally grateful, your grace. I bow down to your fountain of knowledge and ability to form a salient argument that backs up your ever-so-eloquent point of the system being a "distant second" with regards to "systems that didn't suck." I just highlighted the invisible text that was in your post, the text that houses your well-made points, and was amazed at your knowledge.
...seriously - one would think you'd be able to explain your stance. Guess not...?
You can't see it, but there's another invisible argument above this explaining how you're being a tool. Come on man, you can't honestly think that I think the "systems that don't suck" thing was really universal truth, can you?

Doesn't do anything out of the ordinary? Do you know that I can connect my 360 to my PC and play the 300 cd's I have loaded up on my computer through my living room surround sound set up? I love that functionality. Heck I don't even have a cd player in my living room anymore. When I have people over or I want to chill; I just boot up my 360 and I have access to thousands of songs to play through my sweet surround system. I think that is out of the ordinary and is terrific functionality, I love it.
By the way, I am not a Sony fanboy. Heck, I don't even own a PS3. My experience with it, like the Wii is through friends and family who own the systems. I just think it is juvenile for the critic to report every minor blemish he has with any system; it just seems pointless. I don't think he is any more bias then the rest of us and I respect his work and enjoy his reviews.

Plus, a 36 year gamer that never owned an Atari scares me a bit (just kidding)
The 360 redefined online gaming. It created a new craze - the achievements. What other console has been able to have its own blog for heaven's sake? A massive community has arrisen out of it.

Also to call something a craze or a revolution would imply that everybody and their mother was into it. Xbox Live is great but it has 6 million registered users out of both xbox systems. When they have over a hundred million I'll call it a craze. When I see articles in local papers or news clips on local tv stations about people going crazy for xbox achievements, I'll consider it a phenomenom. I understand its all the rage in the xbox community, but they don't exactly speak for the rest of the world.
You can call me crazy, but when I think of social gaming, I tend to to think of people sitting in the same room with me playing games. I can ask my buddy to grab a beer out of the fridge and I can do a distrubing victory dance after beating him in a game.
Look at the Critic's Gaming Party Pics...thats social gaming at its greatest. To me it doesn't get any better than that.
Online gaming is fantastic for playing with people far away, but it will never beat playing someone in the same room.
The one great thing they are doing is great is the indie developer thing. I'll give them kudos for that.

I was just stating my opinion...the 360 is great, but Microsoft simply took the best ideas for console gaming and fused it with some PC ideas. Its not exactly rocket science what they set out to do. I find their efforts to be boring...they lack the balls to go out on a limb and really try anything new and innovative. The system still has great games though, so I'm not complaining about that.

For example, when I read JLH's first post, I agreed with it. But then BM stated his opinions and I realized that he was more right than not. The only thing is that if humanoids like me own a 360, we couldn't give two craps about online play. Regardless, the 360 has tons more pizazz than systems like the Gamecube, for example. Plus if I ever own one, I can't wait to have a woodgrain face plate.
