Is the PS3 the new Jaguar?

Postby VideoGameCritic » March 23rd, 2007, 12:18 am

I like the comparisons to other systems as well.  I think the PS3 has the price of the 3DO ($700), the programming difficulty of the Saturn (remember the duel processors?), and the hype of the Jaguar (64 - you do the math).  So what does it all add up to?  Not much, as of yet.

Allright, settle down, PEACEMAKER is here. Sorry I'm late I had a heckava time finding a phone booth.

I agree with the critic, the PS3 does seem to compare to a lot of failed systems. Ok, now, WHY is everyone getting so angry? The DREAMCAST failed; no one with half a mind is saying THAT IS A BAD SYSTEM! It's a GREAT system! Poor marketing et al., ruined it.

And I agree the Saturn is hard to program for and could've been better in some respects but I've been playing my Saturn all week! You know, you CAN point out flaws in a thing without hating it. I'm an artist. Postive Critiques should be welcome (just no "that system sux! Period!)...

That's all! OBVIOUSMAN-up,up and Awayyyyyy!

people are angry simply because of the price. people want to buy a PS3, they want to believe it is great, but sony over-promised and under-delivered. and that is the cardinal sin when dealing with loyal customers.

the question now is, does sony spin off the playstation brand into its own company, or do they sell it off like warner sold atari after it lost a billion dollars in the 80s

You act like the PS3 has sold 50,000 units...By the end of this year alone they will probably sell close to 10 million units.  Yea the price is high, but people are still buying them at a pretty steady rate.  Its not a phenom like the Wii, but right now nothing can compare to that in terms of sales.

Plus they just launched in Europe and Australia which should help them out a little too.  In London they gave away 46 inch TVs to everyone that waited in line!

Don't get me wrong, Sony is doing bad...its just not doing Jaguar/3DO/Saturn bad.

By the way, I am not a Sony fanboy. Heck, I don't even own a PS3. My experience with it, like the Wii is through friends and family who own the systems. I just think it is juvenile for the critic to report every minor blemish he has with any system; it just seems pointless. I don't think he is any more bias then the rest of us and I respect his work and enjoy his reviews.

Tell us, Shawn.  Tell us about how you don't like people being "juvenile" with their posts.  He who dives into every tame discussion with harsh words and personal attacks and turns it into a "You are a moron for your opinion" argument, no matter what the topic.  Tell us all about it.

Are you kidding me? The problem here is that as soon as somebody disagrees with bashing Sony or doesn't support Nintendo a 100% everybody gets up in arms. Personally, I don't care. Go put your Mario underoos on and go play Zelda. Seriously....
I rest my case.

*Yawn*...PEACEMAKER has Insomnia, or I wouldn't post again, but-

"Go Put on your mario underoos and go play Zelda!"

WHY do we HAVE moderators if they let stuff like this through?
This is an unabashed insult,period.

"People are mad bacause PS3's cost so much".

And I agree; anyone who would pay $400 for a system (unless you are rich and $ doesn't matter) is nu..er, not thinking right.(:
People, the PS2 is a great system still, with games still being made-so play PS2, or get a DS, PSP or Wii or cheaper system and enjoy it for a year or so-by then the price of PS3 will be way down! Besides, from what I understand there are no "must have" PS3 titles, and waiting a while lets you see how a system will do. Unless there is some launch game (like Super Mario World or Super Mario 64) you simply CANNOT live without, my belief is to NEVER rush to buy any new system no matter how good it looks; I waited almost a year and a half before I chose between PSone and Saturn-I got PSone natch, and later a heavily discounted Saturn.

I think impatience is key here-in little kids that's understandable but c'mon, get real here! We all have other systems we can play while we wait to see if PS3 wins or loses- either way YOU will win-If PS3 winds up winning, the price will still go down a bit, any bugs will be worked out, and far more great games will be available with old launch titles discounted! If it loses like Saturn, you'll be able to get a super system for like $99! Either way, the patient consumer will win!

Be adult, guys! Oh, and before I go I MUST reccomend the new Family Guy Book I got "Brian's Guide to Booze, Broads and the lost art of being a man"! Dirty jokes galore!

Okay, Alien out, headed for the outer rim..you're welcome!

Haha, you're so mean!

Perhaps the best comparison is that someone sprinkled 'mega growth' formula on a PSP and "VIOLA", that is where the PS3 came from!

One thing Nintendo said that was interesting was that if DS had failed, they would have had gone back to the drawing boards for the Wii. Yet, Sony knew of the meager sales of the PSP and did nothing to change the PS3! The PSP's stumble really foreshadowed what was to come.

On the bright side, Critic, at least you have a non-gimped PS3 (with full backwards compatibility). I wouldn't mind getting a PS3 when it got down in price but now with the backwards compatibility gone, no way.

The Wii reminds me of the NES (NES constantly sold out for years in Japan and America) and was marketed as a 'family friendly console'. The Xbox 360 reminds me of the Turbographix 16. Like the PC Engine, it is a regional console popular in America (PC Engine was popular in Japan) but didn't do well worldwide. The Xbox 360, like the PC Engine, is the shooters console (except the shooters today are FPS).

Well actually, an Australian member of Atariage just posted a report on the launch there.  I don't think the Aussies will be helping them much.
Allright, settle down, PEACE--
That's where I stopped reading.  I don't want peace.  I want to objectively prove to people that Nintendo Wii is best and I want them to feel bad.*

Also: Perhaps we should talk to the critic about switching to a different kind of message board software.  One that has an ignore feature.  I think that would lead to a lot less threads doing this:

- New Zelda game rocks.  I love the art style.
+ Agreed.
* Yea, wii is better way better than PS3.  PS3 is stupid.
# PS3 is not stupid.  I has a thousand gigaflops.
* Pft.  Is that all you look at number boy.  Whaddabout the innovation?
# Innovation please.  Nintendo ripped off Intellivision.
* Intellivision sucked.
+ Actually no it didn't. Intellvision was awesome.  Way better than Atari.
- Can we talk about Zelda?
* Well yeah if you compare it to uhh-tari, then I guess it's good.
# I can play atari games on my PS3
* Yeah, I could just go steal games from my local convience store.
# One they wouldn't have atari.  Two even if you did, you still couldn't play them on your DS.
@ What you say about the DS?
. . .
