Regardless if they sold out or not launching in several countries is going to eventually help them out.
You guys can really find the negative in just about anything. The system hasn't even been out for 48 hours in some of these countries and you are already alluding to the fact that Sony is doomed. C'mon now...have you learned nothing about negative publicity...the gaming public is fickle and foolish. Nothing but hate spewed forth towards the 360 for several months after launch. The consoles constantly broke, most people felt the games where subtle upgrades from current gen stuff and Microsoft tried to brush it off like nothing bad was happening. I would say that 75% of the people on this forum were unimpress with the 360. The Critic even started new threads like this one asking about when the games were supposed to get better. Eventually better games started to come out and Microsoft quietly started fixing hardware issues...they seem to have recovered just fine from their shaky start.
Rather than sit there and try to pick apart every little thing Sony does wrong (and they've done alot of damage to themselves), I remain optimistic. I really don't see the point of getting up in arms over it. All the b*tching and moaning in the world isn't gonna change anything. Sony is still gonna do whatever they want, because even at $600...the system still sells.

Yup - I know somebody who bought their new machine at midnight last night. With a second controller, high definition tv cable, usb adapter and six games. £600. His verdict? Amazing. I reckon this machine will do well. When the price drops to £200 at Christmas, I'll buy one. Bill Gates can stick his xbox up his dirtbox.

I think you underestimate Sony's committment to the PS3. Simple economics assure the PS3 will have a long life--Sony will not let it die. It's that simple.
Look at Microsoft's Xbox division. They have consistently lost tens of millions each quarter ever since the launch of the original Xbox. The only exception was the quarter when Halo 2 was released. Losses, losses, losses. They are absorbed by the overall company. Heck, Sony is coming off the PS2 which was amazingly popular. So, in that sense, the PS3 has an edge on the 360.
I don't know which one I think will end up leading, but I do know they will both have some amazing games.

People aren't arguing that no one will buy the system. People are arguing not enough people will buy it to maintain Sony's dominance of the market. Of course people are going to buy it. People bought the 3D0. People bought the N64 and Gamecube. People bought the Atari 7800, 5200, Lynx, and Jaguar. That doesn't mean it will be a success. As I said before, the argument "it will be successful because it is Playstation" is nonsense.

I agree with you on that. That will only get a system so far...then it comes down to them marketing the system and getting good games out. Do I think the PS3 is gonna sell 100 million units? No, I don't, but it could still sell 60 million +. Its just too damn early to tell.

I'm not going to argue that at all. Sixty million seems reasonable.

This guy - which games did he buy? Is he familiar with what the 360 has to offer? Could he get the exact same experience for half the price if he bought a 360 and exchanged Resistance (which I'm pretty certain he bought) for Gears of War?
I don't doubt that this guy had fun with his console, but if the competitors offers the same amount of fun for half the price, it's a better idea to go for that, right?
