Is the PS3 the new Jaguar?
"Go Put on your mario underoos and go play Zelda!"
WHY do we HAVE moderators if they let stuff like this through?
This is an unabashed insult,period.
[/QUOTE]
I would have deleted it if I had seen it first. One of the moderators, whoever it is, appears to think that being a moderator means just opening the flood gates and letting everything through as though they are opening up a clogged drain or something. Like the job is just to approve everything as if we have no control over whether posts need to be approved or not, so we need someone there to approve them as fast as they can.

Anyone who thinks the PS3 is amazing clearly hasn't been experiencing the 360. None of the games of the PS3 launch outdo the stuff on 360. Plus half the line up if ports of over a year old 360 games.

I actually prefer if the mods let everything that isn't, say, racist or sexist through. If someone told me to go put on a specific pair of underoos, I would question their interest in my underthings, but I don't think I'd take offense. I mean, anyone who thinks talking about "underoos" is clever discourse couldn't actually hurt my feelings.

I just think it's plain ignorant to assume that, since Sony has dominated for the past two generations, that it will dominate for a third...regardless of price! I also find it funny that Shawn automatically hates when people bash a system to death when he does it all the time! He nitpicks EVERY thing about the Wii, Nintendo, their fans, etc. but loses his cool whenever anybody harms a hair on Sony's head! No, I don't think the Wii will sell 100 million anymore than the PS3 or 360 will! Each will find their own niche. The problem is this: unlike Nintendo with their stellar first party titles, Sony has a bit of an identity problem. Sure, Sony has God of War, Grand Turismo, their 989 sports lineup and so on but they are not as long-rooted as Nintendo's franchises. Microsoft seems to be plundering the ps3 ship for all it's worth, taking every franchise that they can get their hands on. The Suit(Shawn), do you think that Sony can exist as well as Nintendo has without their third party support? That's one thing you refuse to give to Nintendo...how many other hardware companies have been able to exist this long without major third party support? The Saturn lasted all of what, two years in America? The Dreamcast didn't even last that long and it had some amazing titles! I can assume that you hate Nintendo because it's only negative garbage that comes out of your mouth about them but I've never thought that Critic hated Sony. Just take one look at his console reviews for both the ps1 and the ps2, not to mention the amount of games he has given A's and B's to. It's easy to see that you have no idea of what you are talking about. Why do you think he hates Sony? Is it because he doesn't like ONE of their systems, so far?! Hey, I despise the 64 but I still like Nintendo. I hate Game Gear but still like Sega! The Atari 5200, to me, was a junk system but I still love Atari! Just because I like a company doesn't mean I like everything that comes down the pipeline! I think that's the general thing with anybody who loves games! Loyalty is moronic, at least blind loyalty! I knew the 64 would bomb because, month after month, Nintendo was offering very little while Sony was bombarding people with games, both classic and crap! However, you assume the PS3 will sell phenomenally well because..."THEY'RE SONY!"

I think that is everyone's point on here, John-boy. I know Xbox is way more popular in the US than anywhere else, and that may be Sony's saving grace. But to be honest, the PS3 has shown me little to get excited about since the 360 seems to offer just as much, only sooner and cheaper.
When the PS3 starts releasing kick ass exclusives that warrant the console price, we will all start mowing lawns again to save up the ca$h. As of now, I'd rather play my stolen Wii and wait until the next 360 pricedrop.

But, of course... one system has already been out for over a year. (-:
In any event, anyone who is thinking that technical specs are going to determine the battle between the 360 and PS3 is probably a little too fanatical about such matters. So far, the differences in graphics are, at best, minute. Sometimes, in fact, the so called graphic upgrades actually do a game a disservice. In Oblivion, they changed Martin Septim's face to make it look older. It was... kinda weird looking.
Other than that, I mostly see a few lighting effects here, a few little things there, but nothing that would merit saying that a system had "better graphics."
I could be wrong about frame rate though, since I'm studying this from the various side by side screen shots on the web.
In any event, if the PS3 is to beat down the 360, it will do so because of gameplay experiences you cannot get on the 360. And that's where it is looking... grim. Metal Gear is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. They made a mistake not making GoW II for the PS3. They should have pulled a Twilight Princess type move, at the very least, and had a dual release. That's the sort of game that moves systems.
That leaves the 360 Halo 3 and Mass Effect. Maybe Mass Effect will come out for the PS3, not sure what BioWare's relationship is to Microsoft (I know they are not owned by them). It probably will, but much later.
When you factor in Xbox Live! Arcade, there is going to be a fair amount you can do on the 360 that you -can't- on the PS3.

I don't think Mass Effect will be out on the PS3...for a few reasons.
1. I really don't think Microsoft would let it happen. They will probably toss a few extra bones towards Bioware to keep the game at home in 360 land.
2. Mass Effect is a game that isn't going to be on many people's radar. Bioware struck gold with KOTOR, but the license sold that game more so than the gameplay. It was a good game, but judging it solely on the license it was REALLY Good (if that makes any sense). Jade Empire was critically overrated (I loved it, but it certainly wasn't as good as some critics made it out to be...ahem...ign's 9.9...cough). Jade Empire didn't even crack 1 million world-wide (KOTOR only pushed 1.3 million). Thus it probably doesn't appeal to Sony financially.
3. The only other system I can see Mass Effect getting ported to is the PC. It might be 2 years later (a la Jade Empire), but its a pretty good possibility. Plus it doesn't hurt Microsoft (they like computers) and it allows Bioware to make some more cash money.

Is the PS3 the new Jaguar?
My friend works at a gamestop, and I visit him often. Needless to say, I'd say that 90% of the people that shop there are hardly hardcore gamers. Most of the questions they get are about Wii, but that's no surprise. But, a sometimes people talk about the PS3, but usually not that positive. They complain about how expensive it is, and ask if there's going to be a price drop. Lots of people say "eh, I have a 360, I'm not even considering a PS3 right now". The 360 has a good game library that really appeals to most common Americans. For most of us, there's little reason to sink another 500-600 on another system.
Of course, this may not work in other territories where gamer tastes are different.
But, at the exact same time, it's still too soon to tell. At this point in time last year, I wouldn't have wanted to get a 360 because there weren't enough purchase-worthy games. Now, I'd definitely recommend the system to people. Let's see how the PS3 is doing a year from now, and the Wii too. Neither system has really amazing games for it, but at least it's much easier to eat $250 for a system that gives you game styles that you can't get on the other systems. Overall, I think this will be a very interesting generation.

Then of course there is the little fact that it is being published by Microsoft.
It will never be on the PS3.
Ridge Racer 7 (PS3) has less background detail and poorer lighting effects than RR6 on 360.
Armoured Core 4 on PS3 has a hell of a lot less reflections and HDR lighting effects than the 360.
