Games With Perfect Difficulty Levels

Postby snakeboy1 » March 23rd, 2007, 12:01 am

I've been playing through the first God of War lately, and one of the things I love about the game is that its difficulty level is just right.  The game is challenging but never feels overwhelming.  I have played the game for several hours now, and I don't think that I have felt frustrated once.  I have come across some difficult parts where I have died, but none of the deaths have seemed cheap, and I always feel as though I can get past the hard parts with practice.  So far, it seems as though this could be a game that I will actually finish (which doesn't happen too often these days).

What are some other games that have "perfect" difficulty levels?

Probably Resident Evil 4. It has some hard parts, but once you find a strategy, you can stick with it in that hard part. Halo has a great difficulty level if you're playing on any difficulty.

Most old arcade games had "perfect" difficulty levels (there were exceptions of course like Asteroids Deluxe)...the first few levels of Pac Man are run throughs. Then the monsters slowly start getting faster and faster.

I found Joust to be a very "beatable" game; although the enemy gets faster this is to your advantage. The fastest-blue- enemies fly SO fast they often fall in the lava or are grabbed by the troll. If you stand in certain spots you will ALWAYS nail them.

Most of the Super mario games had good learning curves. The only one I never beat was the last, NEW SMB on DS. The last (fire) world on that was incredibly unforgiving.

I second the vote for RE4 and SMB games.

I vote for God of War and RE4, as well. Probably the 2 best games from the last gen, too

Bionic Commando : Tough, but never cheap, not to short, not to long, continues are built into a minilevel, giving yu a chance to grab as many as you like.

Mario 64. This game gets tough by the end, but it slowly pulls you along.

Ninja Gaiden Black in Hard Mode feels perfect to me.  I'm sure few would agree with me.

I would never include Bionic Commando in a list of perfect difficulty games.  I beat it, but it was not just tough--it was hard.  Loved the game though.

Well, I'd probably give the perfect difficulty award to almost any game I beat. If a game is too easy I get bored by it and stop playing, and if it is too hard I give up on it. The only time I finish games is if they're just the right level.
