Any thoughts on which is the better version? I've played both, but it has been too long to say.

Um....actually the absolute kick-butt version of EJ was on SEGA SATURN! The graphics and sounds were hysterical.
Although SNES had sharper colours, I think Genesis was superior. Faster and more fluid, with better controls.
I say all this, even though I was never a HUGE fan of EJ. Kinda silly character idea and way too hard levels. Only the humour set it apart.

Eh, you should probably pick up the PC version instead of a console version. While it's true I've only played the SNES game of these, none of the other posts here mentioned anything about the other versions being more complete, and the SNES version WAS missing a lot of levels from the original. So yeah, go for that.

Earthworm Jim 1 & 2: Genesis vs. SNES
Seeing how Earthworm Jim is one of my favorite 16 bit games, I'll shed some light on this situation.
Earthworm Jim - The SNES game had the better graphics and slightly better sound (voice samples were better). The genesis game had the faster gameplay and better control. I would give the edge to the Genesis version. However, the absolute best version of Earthworm Jim is the Sega CD version. It has the best graphics, best control and it has a great soundtrack. Hands down best EWJ version.
Earthworm Jim 2 - For EWJ2 the tides change though. I felt like the game really shined on the SNES and came up short on the Genesis. The SNES version trumped the genesis in virtually every dept. The visuals were better, the sound was better and the gameplay was just as tight.
If you want the best version of EWJ2 you have to track down the Sega Saturn game. It features sublime 2D visuals and a soundtrack from the immortal Tommy Tallarico. Easily the best way to experience the game is on the Sega Saturn.

Is no one going to mention the extra level in the Genesis version of the game? Given that it plays fine on either system, you have to give the edge to the Genesis version just for that.

Hold up everyone, lets not forget EJ Special ED for the Sega CD, now THAT was a top-notch version!
