Games with overrated difficulty

I think Revenge Of Shinobi has a reputation as a challenging game. I finally finished it on default difficulty setting yesterday, and I have to say that it's not that bad. Once you've mastered the double jump and memorize the levels you should be able to breeze through to the end. The bosses aren't much trouble either with their simple patterns. And the game is real generous with power-ups / extra lives.

Note: I did have to consult Gamefaqs on occasion, like for navigating the final maze. It would be much more tough to complete with no guide for that level.

Pretty much most newer 3d games reviewers always complain about them being too hard when they are not.  I don't consider Jak II  Ninja Gaiden Black or Devil May Cry 3 to be too hard.  Its disappointing that the critics complained and Capcom actually listened to them.  They dumbed down the difficulty for DMC3's special edition.  Wrong Move.

I consider something like Contra Hard Corps to be 10 times harder than any of those games I mentioned.  Can anybody beat that game without cheating or using a emulators save states?  That game is impossible and I can't think of any 3d modern day game that is even 1/10th as hard as it.   Even the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy is harder than the Xbox version.  So pretty much whenever a reviewer complains about a newer 3d game being too hard, they are generally wrong, as nothing can compare to the old days of Contra Hard Corps or Super Ghosts n Ghouls.

Mega Man Zero was touted as incredibly challenging, but is, in fact, easier than a lot of the other Mega Man games. Meh.

Revenge of Shinobi is very difficult if you don't use the infinite shurikens cheat.  You can easily defeat the bosses by jumping and shooting 8 shurikens at once, but you can't generally afford to do that without the cheat.

Right move. It took me 10 tries to beat the first boss in DMC3 on normal difficulty, and really didn't have the patience to keep going through after that. I switched it to easy and found it much more fun. Don't get me wrong, I like a challenge (played God of War on god mode, and Guitar Hero on expert), but sometimes I just want to breeze through a game. Developers should give the player the option by having settings for difficulty.
