Sorry for the double post but I just wanted to point out:
The PS3 is the only next gen console where people who bought them for eBay are making LOSSES.

How many Wiis and 360's were availible at launch? 165,000? Yes? No? I would be easier to supply the UK with ample units if you delay the launch 4 months there.
I also like how the Sony people are saying that not selling out is part of their market strategy. LOL
More spin...
Should be noted, though, that even with these sales, the console didn't sell out. It's simply a record sale because the supply was greater than the demand. Now that most of the people who wanted the consoles right now has gotten one, we'll see how long it takes for the remaining consoles to fly off the shelves.
Remember, the Wii is still pretty much impossible to find in stores, since the demand is STILL greater than the supply 5 months after launch.
Well I am not trying to defend Sony here, but they sold more on launch, according to these reports, than any other console. So by inference, that would have to mean that they shipped far more too, at least for them not to have sold out.
The PS3 is the only next gen console where people who bought them for eBay are making LOSSES.
If a console shipped more than it sold, even though it sold A LOT, that would necessarily mean that you couldn't sell it for more than it's worth on eBay. In fact, it would mean that getting the console at a store would have to be easier than getting it on eBay. This doesn't speak to how many were sold, only for how many extras were shipped beyond what were sold.
The only way someone can make profits on eBay on something like this, especially with eBay's new selling rules for video games and consoles, is if there is a limited supply to go along with the demand. In this case, even though demand was higher for a launch than any other console in history (if the reports are true, that is), it's one of those rare cases where initial demand meets supply.
Just keep in mind that outselling on launch is not an indication that it will continue selling like that. For all we know, everyone would could thought it was worth buying a PS3 at these ludicrous prices have done so already -- which would also explain why they didn't sell out, of course.

Take a look at this:

When people working for retailers are all being haranged for failing to meet pre-order targets excuse me for being sceptical over that article. Gamespot only employ like 2 people in the UK anyway.

I think you are confused. I never said you need an excuse for being skeptical. I am somewhat skeptical myself.
Still, it doesn't matter if Gamespot employed 1000 or zero in the UK. As I pointed out, they are not the only source for this information. Several others have come forward as well.

I wonder if they included this:
http://www.brandrepublic.com/login/News/646182/(Chart Track covers 90% of the gaming industry as well)
My point is that it is not fair to compare the first two days of the PS3 with any other of the next gen machines.
Instead it should be compared with the sales numbers when they stopped selling out. Surely you can see the logic here.
The 360 and the Wii would have had much higher 2 day sales figures if they had had enough stock.
So in order to compare the initial demand for the consoles you must look at how many they sell before surplusses are available.
The Wii is still selling out over here. These are people who would have bought it in the first two days IF they had been able to. The 360 was sold out for months.

I do see that logic, blue. Even if this opening sales thing turns out to be true, I don't know if this means all that much. Ultimately, I think everyone who could afford a PS3 bought one now.

http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/Check the part about the sales drop (scroll down a bit). And there, it's decided. The numbers were real... and like Bluemonkey said, meaningless.

I think I am going to wait until it gets confirmed elsewhere. No offense, but this is the same site that was implying the launch didn't go well, when in fact, it outsold every console for the first 48 hours in its existence. I figure since the numbers will eventually be public (this site says they aren't supposed to have them), I'll see it sent out everywhere then.
I have no reason to doubt that it's true. I just don't want to repeat this info to others until I know for sure from a more reputable source.
