Sega CD Questions

I am thinking about investing in a Sega CD system.  Problem is I really don't know anything about it.  I have read through the Critic's reviews (system and games) and I've decided I want one.

Looking around on Ebay didn't yield too many results and most systems looked pretty beat up.  Does anybody know where else I could possibly find one.  Also I'm not sure what I should pay for one of these things.  I would prefer to find a boxed system, but if a system looked like it was in superb condition I would buy it.

Any help you guys could give me would be great.  Thanks.

I was looking into getting one for awhile on Ebay until I saw a great deal at one of my local game stores. I found a model 2 Sega CD for $30. On Ebay they generally go for $40 and up and the prices can get crazy for a model one sega Cd that the Genesis sits on top of (I usually see them going for above $60-70 without the confirmation that they even work or not). In my area finding the games isn't terribly hard, but finding good games like Sonic Cd , the Terminator, and the infamous Night Trap was harder. You might have to do alot of Ebay shopping for good games. If you go for a system on Ebay the thing you need to confirm above all else is that the Sega CD works FLAWLESSY. I've talked with some workers at game stores and the systems have a tendency to just "go-out" all of a sudden.(particuliary the rare model one Sega CD, I've found two of them that would not even turn on.)

Thanks for all the info.  I think I'm just gonna keep checking ebay until I see one that looks good.  In my area finding vintage systems and games is near impossible.  If it wasn't for online stores I probably wouldn't have half of my collection.

I'll make sure the sega cd is flawless before I buy it.  Again thanks for the info.
