Sega Saturn Reccomendations...

Postby Johnny » March 29th, 2007, 7:50 pm

Around a Year ago i obtained a Sega Saturn Console, with Panzer Dragoon, Sega Rally, Golden Axe the Duel, Virtua Fighter 2, and Daytona USA and i was wondering what other Sega Saturn games i need to add to my collection.

And is Panzer Dragoon Orta really worth the 200 Dollars?

I'm not sure but I think the jap version has subtitles in english. I'm sure that version would be cheaper.

Sega Saturn Reccomendations...

The Saturn has a slew of great titles that most people don't know about.  I purchased my Saturn almost a year ago to the day and I can't believe I waited that long to finally get one.  If you like fighters, or arcade games the system is worth its weight in gold.  Here are some of my favorites.

Fighters
NightWarriors: Darkstalkers Revenge
Vampire Savior *
Street Fighter 2 Collection
X-Men vs Street Fighter *
Ultimate Mortal Kombat

Shooters
Darius Gaiden
Gunbird *
Metal Slug *
Elevator Action Returns *
In the Hunt
Galactic Attack

Other
The Horde
Earthworm Jim 2
Astal
Mr. Bones
Baku Baku
Super Puzzle Fighter
Herc's Adventure
Panzer Dragoon 1 & 2 (I've never played Saga)
Nights into Dreams (you need the 3D controller)
Burning Rangers
Die Hard Arcade
Shinobi Legends

* These game require the Action Replay Cartridge to play import games.  Some of them require the Action Replay Cart with 4MB of extra RAM.  This sucker is worth the investment.  Some of the best Saturn games never were released outside of Japan and most have English menu's.

I only have a handful of Saturn games but:

I second the reccomendation for DARIUS GAIDEN! Superb shooter!

I DO NOT agree on Baku Baku...get Bust a move instead. I found BB to be slow, tedious and dull for a puzzle game.

Also: XMen: Children of the atom and Street Fighter Alpha are Superb Fighters. Virtua Cop also rules.

Stay Away From Virtua Fighter KIDS (It is the exact same game as VF2 with "kid" sprites!) and Street Fighter: The movie!

Have fun on Saturn!

Sega Saturn Reccomendations...

Glad I could help out.  The Saturn is a great system, but its very difficult to collect for.  I needed alot of help to get my collection started, and asking people was the only way to the info I needed.

Here are some sites that I purchase games from on a regular basis.

www.gooddealgames.com

www.egameaddiction.com

www.tradengames.com

www.j2games.com

I personally have found the best deals on Ebay, but these are stores have an ever changing collection of games to peruse through.  The inventory changes probably once a month, but I have gotten some great deals.

Alienblue, you are kind of correct about Baku Baku.  That game is sort of slow, but if you play it with another person its value is unmatched.  Easily one of the best "battle" puzzle games out there.  My girlfriend and I were addicted to that game.  I don't regret buying that game one bit.

JLH...YOU may be correct abot Baku Baku-I never played it with anyone. In fact I only have a single Saturn control. The "animal" opponents are slow and easy. I never thought of 2 player.

JLH, this is a stupid question I know, but how do you buy games from Good Deal Games? I saw it on the critic's link page, but when I go to it I can never find any list of games for sale. Is there a link I'm missing when I go there?

Sega Saturn Reccomendations...

I recommend:

-Gun Griffon is an amazing mech game. Very fast paced, great controls.

-Daytona USA CCE - much better than Daytona USA.

-Street Fighter Alpha 2 - one of the best 2d fighters ever.

-Guardian Heroes - an amazing side scrolling.  Truly epic.  So much replay value with divergent levels and plot.

-Virtua Cop 2 - the best lightgun game EVER. PERIOD.

-Sega Touring Cars - needs the analogue controller, only get this is you are a racing fan as it is a bit hard at first.

-XMas Nights - only 2 levels but a real treat.

-Alien Trilogy - it's Doom but with an awesome Alien facelift.  Amazing level design and great audio.  Very scary.

-Loaded - classic 1 or 2 player old school action with pumping tunes and great graphics.

-WipEout - one of the best racing games ever and a great alternate soundtrack to the PS1 version.  Avoid the Saturn version of WipEout 2097/XL it plays like garbage.

-Exhumed/Powerslave - utterly unique and one-off FPS.  Really shows what the Saturn can do.

-Grid Runner - an entertaining off beat title.

-Enemy Zero - one of the creepiest games ever.  Invisible enemies with nothing but an audio based motion tracker.  A tour de force in brilliant game making.

-Torico/Lunacy - one of the most atmospheric point and click games there's been, if a little simple.

-Space Hulk - great action/strategy hybrid.

-Baku Baku - owns.

-Nightwarriors/Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior - all awesome.

-Battle Garegga - awesome vertical shooter.

-Metal Slug - nuff said.

-Fighters Megamix - great value for money.

-Shining the Holy Ark - very nice classic first person rpg.

-AMOK - underated genius of a game.  Great arcade gameplay and sensibilities and a clever level structure.

-Crusader No Remorse - hard controls at first but a great deal of depth and great FMV delivered plot.

-Worms.

-Mass Destruction - soooo shallow but fun for a laugh.

-Resident Evil.

-Steep Slope Sliders - one of the best snowboarding games and I have played most.  Real sense of speed.

-Tempest 2000 - psychadelic masterpiece by the man Jeff Minter.

-Tomb Raider.

Stuff I have heard is good:  Dark Savior, Astal, Die Hard Trilogy and Arcade, The Legend of Oasis, Soviet Strike, Virtual On.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is an amazing game.  One of the best RPGs out there.  But it isn't very long at all.  It feels really special while it lasts though.  Think long and hard about it.  You will spend far more time on the likes of Sega Rally which is 100x cheaper.  I don't regret buying it though.
