Loading screens for loading screens?
...Like in the C-64 days, most games came on a single, quick loading disc (or even cart!)
Whoa, I remember having my friend Ed over.  He was used to his NES, which I didn't have.  I wanted to show off this Apache helicopter flight sim game on my C=64.  He comes over, all anxious to see it, I whip out the disk, key in the command (,8,1), and...

And...

"Dude, what's the problem?  Is it broken?"

"Nope, it's loading."

"Loading?  What's that mean?"

"It means it's gonna be another few minutes."

"Then we get to play?"

"Er, no... Then I have to turn the disk over."

"Dude, this sucks.  Let's go outside."

He was really, really unimpressed.

MAN you guys are bringing back memories!  I loved my old C64 and played with it for hours on end almost daily for YEARS, but one thing I have to admit is that the load times for that stupid thing were interminable.  You not only had to wait for sometimes up to 3 minutes for a disk to load, as BigOldCar mentions you often had to then flip the disk over so it could load the other side as well.  Although even that seemed like a Godsend after having dealt with tape-based games for about the first year I had the machine.  UnGodly load times and zero error correction were a nightmare.  Now that I've re-built my C64 collection I've wisely invested in a "FastLoad" cart, which makes disks load up to 4x faster than they otherwise would.  I wish I had known about that thing back in the day.
