Scratches on Wii Disc
My Excite Truck disc has a circular scratch on it, looks like it may have been from the Wii itself from the perfect arc of it, has anyone else had this problem? I am not by any means 100% sure it's from the hardware, I am careful with my games but maybe it was my bad.
The game still works, but it can't pull up a couple of tracks, it gives me a disc read error and crashes the game. Curiously enough, it seems to be the Fiji beach levels, I guess they were coded near each other? At least 80% of the tracks still load and I have gotten all the S ranks I am probably capable of getting, so I can still enjoy the game, I guess this just means I can never sell it. I just got a "B" on Nebula level today, so I am proud of myself. It was a battle to beat the last Scotland track on Super Excite mode, now I can unlock all the alternate paint jobs, and the last truck I will get.

That happened to me once from twisting a disk while trying to get it out of the case, and there was a little granule of something between the disk and the case. Covered about a third of the circumference of the disk. I take scratched disks down to Game Crazy and they resurface them for a dollar. Good as new.

It's definitely possible. Any console that sits in such a way that it holds discs in a vertical position has that potential. I had that problem a lot when I held my 360 vertically like a tower. I sit both the PS3 and the XBOX 360 down now horizontally now. I was doing the Wii that way until I moved a month or so ago.

I'll try to resurface it, I'm surprised they can do that. Thanks.

It's actually pretty simple to resurface a disk. The data is on the label at the top, if it's scratched the data isn't actually hurt (unless it's a really deep scratch) it just can't be read. They just have to take a thin layer of the plastic off to get rid of the scratch.

Next time you are at Game Crazy, you might want to give the cashier a kiss. My local video store charged me $6, but out here in the sticks I didn't have many options. Steerforth was over a barrel for sure, but I got my game back, ye-haa!
I'l never do business with you again Palace Video, and when did game rentals get so high?
