Well said! I got rid of my cable TV the second my ex-wife left me! I could afford it, but I never WATCHED anything except the occasianal Nature/Documentary or Star Trek re-run.
Mordern TV has almost NOTHING good on it, IMHO. Sorry, but I grew up in the days when stuff like MASH, GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, and NOVA graced the airwaves. Now I don't even have an Antena for local TV. I got disgusted with all the "reality" crap and thouroughly gross "we will give you money and 15 seconds of fame if you eat these bugs, crap your pants, jump in manure or otherwise thoroughly humilate yourself" shows. And we WONDER why kids make videos like THAT!? HEL-LO! (By the way what the heck is "Lost"? A giligans Island thing or what? I was looking through a used TV guide, that was the only thing that looked INTERESTING.)

It is amazing to me that people would do this... I think it shows just how incredibly spoiled some of the kids are today.  When you have everything simply handed to you, you have absolutely no appreciation for that item; when you work your butt off to obtain something (or, have to wait months and months for Christmas or your Bday to roll around) you have an emotional investment in it.  These are probably kids who grew up in a situation where if they wanted something, their parents just ran out and bought it for them.  For them to destory it means nothing, because they didn't sink any of their time or money into it AND they know that as soon as it's gone they can go back to mommy and daddy and have another one within 12 hours.  I appreciate how fun it can be to think up newer and more ingenious ways to destroy something, but why something perfectly good?  Get ahold of something that's already busted and go to town.

[QUOTE=wur]Come on, they're just being adolescent boys.  I think the main amusement of it arises from the amount of ingenuity they put into editing their videos/website and actually destroying the game systems, which is contrasted with pure nihilism and destruction.  Doesn't anyone else find the absurdity of that funny?  I mean, look at how much effort they put into destroying their PSP.

I'd find it amusing if they actually had any talent.... breaking something to get attention is pretty lowbrow and hasn't been interesting since 'Jackass' did it 5 years ago.

Really what I'm tired of is copycats. One person makes a video, puts it online and it turns out to be funny leads to hundreds of thousands of other people doing the exact same thing. Television does this alot too. One successful reality show... 'Survivor' turned into thousands of  dumb spin offs (ie Flava of Love).
