The Video Game Critic

Recently I was scouring EBAY  for GC compilations, get somewhat of a classic game collection for my Wii, I have no internet access so the VC is out and more than I would probably pay anyway.

Which brings us to Animal Crossing. AC is not my kind of game, but it does have I think 15 NES games coded into it. My problem is to retrieve some of the better games - Zelda, Mario Bros, - you need an 'e-reader' ala GBA or something. So, does anyone on this board have a  game save with all of the NES games where I could send a memory card and a SASE and get it copied over?

Nintendo compilations are few and far between, we can thank $20 - $30 re-releases on the GBA for that. I hope people on this board are interested in this, maybe if we got a group of people who wanted to do this, we could figure it out. I would be more than happy to hook other people up if I recieved this game save. Thanks.

It's very interesting that you say that, because I've been thinking about this issue ever since the Wii came out. The price of some of the VC games can be pretty high, and if you can already get them on Gamecube compilations already, what's the point of paying these prices (aside from being able to use the classic controller with it)?

As such, I always mention Animal Crossing because it does contain quite a few NES games on there, some of which, admittingly, are utter trash that aren't worth their $5 asking price on the VC, but you can get a bunch of them on one disc for under $20 and get a cool Gamecube game, too.

Now, in regards to Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Mario Bros, and Ice Climber, their exisitence in AC is kind of hard to discern, although maybe they're accessable by an Action Replay (though in that case, would they be glitchy?), I don't know. 

As far as many of the others, they can be unlocked through normal play or you can just do what I recommend; go to Gamespot and look up the special codes available for the games and tell them to Tom Nook to get your games. 

I know for a fact that Gamespot has the codes for Golf, Pinball, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Balloon Fight, Baseball, Donkey Kong Jr. Math and by far the best included game, Wario's Woods.

I had to play the game a bit to find Clu Clu Land, and I still haven't gotten Tennis, but I know that they can be gotten.  I'm not sure if you can get Soccer in the game itself, but the offical AC website (http://animal-crossing.com/news.jsp) allows you to put in the AC info of your game and spits out a code and fashion that you can use to get it, although I don't have it (I think I may have followed the instructions wrong.  

In regards to Donkey Kong Jr., Clu Clu Land D, and Donkey Kong 3, I'm not exactly sure how they are achieved.  I think that there was a giveaway for some of them in the past, though I'm not sure.  

But yes, I do recommend that Wii owners do this with not just AC, but all the other Gamecube compilations, such as the Sonic collections and the Mega Man collections because it'll save you some money, and you'll still get to play these old games.  And if, like me, you don't like using the Gamecube controller to play these 2D games, get a PS2 controller adapter, because the one I have is quite nice for collections like these.

Both Ice Climber and Mario Bros are available from e-reader cards. SMB and LoZ are the only games still unavailable without cheating devices (and by "still", I mean when I last played the game, which is years ago).

Wario's Woods and Baseball require a GBA and a GBA-GC link cable to get, as these can only be aquired from the GBA Isle, while the other games on Steerforth's list of e-reader games (as well as Punch-Out) were available as gifts from Nintendo during a limited time at the web page - a player would enter his or her name and town, and would then be given the code to recieve that game in the mail. However, there is a site out there that collected the codes for these games (along with pretty much every other item in the game) to be sent to "Link" in "Hyrule", so it's possible to create a new file using these names, write in the codes, get the gaes, then send them over to your regular file.

But yeah, while there are some decent games to be found in Animal Crossing, the majority are trash, and most of the better ones require extra material like cards and cables to be found. If you only want NES games, and don't have an interest in Animal Crossing as a game, it's really a better idea to just download them off the VC.

I need to find this game save, I agree its not worth the trouble unless you can get the top tier games.

So say I bought this memory card, and you sent me a GC memory card, and I copied it over. That would not work? If you could explain why, I would appreciate it. Thanks 

Files on GC memory cards allow you to delete, copy or move data. However, games can block certain of these functions, and an annoyingly high amount of them block the copy function (some block the move function as well).

Which games?  I ran into this situation a LOT on the XBOX.  But I haven't played any games on the Gamecube with this problem.

So there's Animal Crossing, and what else?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Hm, intersting.. apparantly, if you connect the GC memory card to a Wii console, you can copy and move whatever files you want. I don't have my GC here to chack which games won't allow you to do so on it, but at least that's one solution.

Ah, never mind, apparantly the choices are there, but you get an error message if you try. Guh.

I remember Chao data in the Sonic Adventure games not being transferrable, at least.
