Marathons

I saw some of yall talking about game lenght, patience, etc.., and it made me think.  I play for about 30 minutes per sitting at the max (But then again, I'm married with a child).

I remember old days....playing straight for 3-4 hours, and it gradually decreased the older I got...But starcraft was addictive, I could have played it all day long if not for school, but I did go for 10-12 hours a few times

Anyone else do any marathon gaming?

HECK YES I used to have marathon gaming sessions!

I remember playing Halo 2 online for 5-7 hour clips all the time.  Another impressive feat was beating Final Fantasy VII in one sitting with my friend.  It took us around 24 hours.  We took some breaks, but we left the game on the whole time.  I remember playing and beating Resident Evil in one sitting.  That only took a couple of hours though.  I was obssesed with the orginal Tomb Raider as well.  I can remember playing that game for hours on end.  Finally figuring out puzzles in that game was so satisfying...I would never have the patience for that now.

The PS1 was like my "gaming prime" if you will.  I'm much more of a collector these days, but I will never stop playing.  I consider playing a game for more than an hour to be a marathon.   Oh to be young and have free time again...

I definitely play a lot of Halo like about 8-10 hours each Saturday. I remember playing Gears of War one night until one early morning (about 6:30 P.M. to 2:30 A.M.)

Marathons

Only the top 2% of games ever hook me enough to get me out of my usual limit: I can only really play a game for 2 hours or so at once before I have to do something else. My eyes get tired.

Of course, multiplayer gaming (especially face to face multiplayer, not online) can go on for many hours!

Being married, I save Saturdays for a nice, long fat gaming session. Otherwise, I tend to do the half hour here, half hour there approach. Many weeks, I hardly ever game at all until the weekends.

The DS is another story, however. It sits on the night stand, and gets played every day.

Incidentally, the games where I did crazy long marathons to complete them would be (to be best of my memory, some of these go way back):

Phoenix Wright I and II
Hotel Dusk Room 215
Twilight Princess
Halo 2
Jade Empire
KOTOR I
KOTOR II
Jedi Academy (not Jedi Outcast, the other one released for the original Xbox. A very cool underrated Star Wars game).
Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2
Final Fantasy VII
Strider (NES version)
Super Contra
Zelda II
Simon's Quest (much better than most people think!)
Mario 1, 2, 3, World

This is a great place to explain WHY I always am wishing for the simpler 2D games, the SHORTER games... When I was younger I too, can recall playing straight through some games like LIFEFORCE (of course thats only like 35-45 minutes); but I now am sick with an illness that keeps me very weak and makes any interactivity difficult for lonnng periods...I just get so tired. So I appreciate that most DS games have save capabilities!

But like I said, yes, I did go for longer periods when I was younger, though in my day that was often for the top score. Even then, I think my record was only 90 minutes or so - a drop in the bucket on many of todays long adventures!

When I first rented gta vice city. The PS2 loaded the game up at 8:00am and was turned off at 6:00pm after being played all day by myself, my brother and his friend.

My most ridiculous gaming sessions were with Street Fighter 2, Madden and Sim City 3000. Also Star Fox 64, when I first played it, I beat everything in a few days. I also played Everquest OA and Final Fantasy XI too much. That only lasted a few months though.

I hate that "playing too long" feeling. Dizziness, loss of time, the sun sets and you feel like poop. Then the sun rises and you're like "Oh man, I have to call into work..."

My buddy George and I played Gauntlet Legends (Dreamcast) for at LEAST 7 hours straight, ending around 3AM.

@ Funk: Yeah, that's precisely how I felt after I beat Twilight Princess. I had to kinda stop gaming for a few days, just because I felt so guilty taking so many hours to beat it.

@ Critic: I did the same thing with Gauntlet Legends. That game isn't even all that good, yet it has that "gotta play one more" quality to it.

It is not something I get to do very often due to other commitments. But sometimes as RPG can draw me in for a few hours. Also when I first got Resident Evil 4, I literally played it all day.

Over the summer me and a few friends got a few dozen bears and played through a number of games, particularly Ikaruga (if you think that is hard sober...) for much of the evening and night, though that wasn't non stop playing.
