Casino Royale and Blue Ray

Casino Royale was certainly a good movie, but I'm surprised no one mentioned Sony's clearly blatant hyping of Blu-Ray in the film itself.  When Bond was checking the hotel security videos from earlier in the day, they were on Blu-Ray discs and the camera lingered on the Blu-Ray logo on the player he puts the discs into.  The only thing Sony could have done to prop their technology up more was mention it in the movie by name, which thankfully, they didn't do.

As of now, though, this is already an early favorite for Blu-Ray player owners.  It's the best selling Blu-Ray movie so far and the first to break into Amazon.com's Top 10 Selling Movies List when it first came out (which also contained normal DVDs).  And even with the shameless in-film plugging of the technology, I bet the movie looks quite nice on Blu-Ray (I saw it on DVD).

[QUOTE=Minzo]Casino Royale was a great film. I say the poker scene ragged on WAY to long. That bored me. And the end was predictable. I still enjoyed the movie and I think this Bond is passable

I completely agree on the poker scene. It was insanely boring. Other than that I thought it was a pretty good Bond flick; it was at least better than any of the Pierce Brosnan Bonds (I thought Brosnan was a good Bond, they were just bad movies).

Critic, the torture scene was the best scene in the movie! It basically showed how much of a badass the Daniel Craig is going to be. "Augh! To the left!" How many people could be tortured that way and be a wiseass? Only a badass.

Personally I loved the poker stuff, it had such tension and was so stylish.  Out of interest do we have many poker players here?  I love the game but don't get to play with real people very often.

Every now and then the PS3 wonks out and I have to turn it off, or take out the disc and put it back in, but other than that, I much prefer watching Bluray.

I don't actually care about HD and Blu-Ray but it seems the blu-ray layer ain't that great in the PS3 if it 'wonks out'. Picture quality may be fine like the ps2 and its dvd player is but it seems that like the PS2, PS3 extended movie viewing is not recommended.

You've got to be kidding?  If I had to power off my movie and back on I wouldn't exactly call it a better experience even with improved resolution.

Anyway, the movie itself was great with a gritty more hard edged Bond than previously.  Of course, I grew up watching Bond flics and enjoyed this one even if the torture scene made me a little uncomfortable.

As for the poker comment, yep, I like that too.  Though mostly for the ability to get the guys to come over without them getting into trouble from their wives.

Not kidding at all.  Again, it's not the bluray movie that wonks out, it's my PS3, and if it does it, it is always on inserting the disc, not during the movie at a point when I got it to play.

I've only had the issue when attempting to watch "Happy Feet" with my little godson while he was visiting.  For some reason, it wouldn't play.  I could hear sound, but no picture.  It was like the PS3 was confused or something.  I took it out, cleaned the disc, and it worked fine.  Later, after my godson had handled the disc a lot, I tried to play it again and it wouldn't play until after I cleaned it.  A third time, the PS3 again wouldn't properly start the disc up.  So when I turned the PS3 off and started it back up, it was fine.

In any case, if my HD-DVD player wonked out every now and then, should I blame it on HD-DVD or the HD-DVD player?  Practically every DVD player I had way back when the format was relatively new had problems playing at least some DVDs for reasons unrelated to the DVD at all, yet I never thought: "That's it, DVD must suck because my DVD player can't play this particular one very well -- it's back to VHS for me!!"  And certainly some of those experiences were worse than the simple issues I've had with Bluray on the PS3.  I mean, "The Patriot" years ago wouldn't play on even one of my DVD players, yet it would play quite well on my PS2.  Who do I blame for that?  The DVD or the DVD Players?

I used to play quite a bit, but it's been a while now. I'm sure I could still hold my own if I played again.

I thought the last hand was pretty stupid though.  It was a litle too perfect.

I don't play a lot of poker, but I can hold my own.  My best friend taught me, and he played for a living for a couple years.

What was the last hand? Was it something absolutely ridiculous like one person getting a full house and another getting a straight flush?
