Got Wii?

Postby Alienblue » April 9th, 2007, 8:36 am

Well, here in the little town of Rockland Maine the Wii shortage is over. Both Wal*Mart and our one video store had at least six
last time I went shopping (I'd like one, but I can't afford $250 on my budget right now)...

How about other people? Hath the shortage ended where thou art?

Hath said Critic goteth his as of yet?

(Sorry just finished playing JOUST, Medicants!)

They will probably sell more this month if Supply exceeds demand.

I know this is Nintendoville here, but it looks like the Wii shortage was all by design. Nintendo apparently just wanted to pad new sales quarter numbers and create a little hype.

No harm, no foul. I'll get to buy one soon instead of stealing my friends' Wiis.

I still haven't seen one around here. For those that think Nintendo created the shortage all I can say is a rep. from Nintendo denied that, for what that's worth. Doesn't affect me anyway, so I could care less.

I got a Wii on launch day...number 38 of 38 at the Target where I work.  I was going to be PISSED if I missed it by one or two...XP

After TP, I haven't really used it beyond the various channels (news, voting, weather, etc.).  Wii Sports is fun, but it's run its course; Trauma Center was fun, until you have to trace those *$&# stars.  I trace the same pattern 20 times in a row and it'll accept maybe 5 of them.  WAY too finicky.  Other than that, I've been too broke to afford any new games (and there hasn't been anything to justify $50 to me yet).  If Nintendo lowered the price by 10 or 20, I'd buy a lot more Wii titles.

I have yet to see a Wii in Minnesota. (But I shop not even once a week.) My wife has seen one, and she bought it.

By the way, Alien, is your hometown the hometown of Hawkeye on MASH?

Gave up on one last month, not getting one. Sorry I'm just not gonna risk my life to get one.

"Is your hometown the hometown of Hawkeye on MASH?"

Why Sure, Doc Hawk lives right up the street!

Unfortunately, while most of the MASH characters had "real" hometowns (Ottamwa, Iowa and Toledo, Ohio) , Hawkeye's
hometown of "CRABAPPLE COVE" was purely fictional. There
certainly are a lot of COVES in Maine (Penobscott Cove is close
to me) and lots of crabapple trees as well (all kids have to TRY
them, it's a ritual!) ...but no "Crabapple cove" exists anywhere
in New England (I was a big fan of the show, and believe
me, I checked the maps!)!

Charlottetown Prince Edward Island has basically none. I work at the only Futureshop on  the Island. We are getting 18 in on friday, just also have 20+ Wii motes and Nunchucks to go along with them.  There is also some ridiculous attachments for the Wii-mote,

One set turns the Wiimote into a baseball bat, tennis racket or golf club, the other turns the wii mote into a sword and the nunchuck fits into a sheild (probably for Zelda).  Little kids are going NUTS over them.

I don't believe Nintendo created this shortage, historically speaking shortages are a bad thing a-la dreamcast.

Wal-Mart gets shipments in during the day. I've seen five Wiis at a local Wal-Mart. Next time I went by, they were all gone. Just because you see some Wiis in stock doesn't mean the shortage is over. It just means you were at the right time and place. The shortage is only over when the retail supply stops vanishing. Though, things are probably different in Maine then in other parts of the country.

But it is ridiculous to call this a shortage. Six million Wiis were shipped to retailers and the volume of Wii sales is above pretty much any other console. What appears to be happening is that the Wii is tapping in demand from non-gamers.
